Juventus v Inter Milan Preview
Sunday’s Derby d’Italia is being billed as Juve’s last chance at making significant progress towards securing a Champions League spot this season – a gap of 11 points behind Milan with 14 games to go means title hopes have been shelved for next year. Inter, on the other hand, will want to use this match to get a leg up on title rivals Mlian – only 5 points behind but crucially a game in hand.
Juventus have won just once in their last eight games, a wretched run of form that sees them in a lowly 8th spot in the Serie A league table. The upside for Luigi Del Neri’s team is that they do have some momentum going into Sunday’s match courtesy of their win against Cagliari, and home advantage coupled with the added motivation of playing a major rival could be exactly what the players need to put in a winning performance.
Inter Milan have performed a complete u-turn in their outlook under new coach Leonardo, playing attractive, attacking football but suspect in defence. Injuries haven’t helped matters but goals scored up front have kept Inter in the hunt for the title, and with Milan dropping points in their last two games, the players will need no extra motivation to perform knowing that a win will leave them only 2 points behind a shaky Milan side.
Juventus v Inter Milan Prediction
Juventus held Inter to a draw earlier in the season but their downturn in form coupled with Inter’s marked improvement from Rafa’s reign means that home advantage may count for very little. A draw seems the safest bet, but if we had to chose, we’d go for an Inter win.
