I was so shocked, I pissed myself when I heard that Mutu had received a 7 month ban after what happened to Rio. The FA should thikn about re-organizing. They are being pathetic at the moment.

Also, I think there is a tendency to inflict less punishment on the 'big guys'. Would it be outrageous if the disciplinary panel consisted of members of league teams? That way we could get the precedent going in football and things would be a whole lot fairer.

Excellent article and I have been saying this for ages. The FA campaigns for things like respect but has no developed disciplinary strategies when people do step out of line.

And the Barton bit is simply an illustrative point- why do people on here take things so personally?

This is the same FA that appointed Mclauren, right? They're obviously not sane to pass judgment on others.

Davies - of the 23 paragraphs in this article, 3 of them mention Barton.

Doesn't take a genius to look at the title and read the other 20 paragraphs to work out what 'the point of the article' is.

the point would be to highlight the FA's inconsistencies in handing out punishments. I don't think that particular issue has been given enough attention in the press, although the individual cases have been discussed ad nauseum

What's the point in this article?

This story has been well covered in the press, so it can't be to inform. Is it just hat YOU think there should be a harsher punishment, because YOU find his bevaviour unacceptable, and presumably doesn't play for the team YOU support?

Probably.

Aside from the fact that Barton played for a different club at the time of the incident and his punishment has also been inflicted upon an innocent, his team (fair enough, Allerdyce knew the baggage this player came with when he bought him), there's also the small matter of a suspended four month prison sentence and a further six match ban, should Barton's conduct continue to be violent.

I don't like Barton's behaviour and I really wish we'd left him at City, but we didn't. Nothing I can do about that, just like there's nothing you can do about the level of punishment dealt out by the FA. So again, I ask; what's the point in this article?

What about that this was a civil case and was dealt with by the law of the land. It did not happen on a football pitch or training ground. Will the FA ban the next footballer that crashes his car or gets in a fight outside a nightclub.

What about the games he missed whilst in jail for the same offense?
What about the non-punishment to Adebayor for head-butting Bendtner in a live match?
What about Hartson's 3 match ban for attacking a team mate in training?
