Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed that he will not play for the French club next season.

Zlatan’s comments will fuel further speculations that the Swedish international is headed to the Premier League and Manchester United in particular.

“I will not be at PSG next season,” he is quoted as saying in the Guardian.

“I have one and a half months left on my contract. I will enjoy while I’m still here. What will happen next year I do not know but for now I will not be here.”

The PSG star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since the Premier League giants were linked with Jose Mourinho. The former Chelsea manager is expected to take over at Old Trafford at the end of this season.

Mourinho and Ibrahimovic has been a convenient story for the media over the last couple of seasons. The Swedish striker was linked with a Chelsea move when Mourinho was in charge.

It is acceptable that Manchester United need a striker and would benefit from signing someone like Ibrahimovic, but it is unclear whether there is any truth to these rumours.

Mourinho and Ibrahimovic worked together at Inter Milan and have a great deal of respect for each other. Both have stated that they would love to work with each other again. However, one cannot forget that Ibrahimovic is 34 and his wage demand means that he might not be a sensible investment at this point.

It will be interesting to see where Zlatan ends up come the end of the season, but there is no doubt that he is a world class player and there will be plenty of suitors lining up for his services.
