You know, I did consider it, but I decided early on to exclude beards and goatees from the discussion; they’re far too common and tend to divert one’s attention away from any accompanying ’stache. Plus, Rafa’s midlife crisis is something I’ve always planned to address in a piece on how, judging from his constant efforts to purchase every young attacking talent he can afford and a subsequent ever-rotating starting eleven, he manages a real football club made of human players by making decisions based on a game of Football Manager he has had running since he signed for Liverpool. I am merely awaiting a sighting of him cruising down Mathew St. on a Segway to begin a detailed analysis.

The article is too long… but funny.

I am amazed though you can write an article about facial hair, give a paragraph to Liverpool and don’t mention Benitez’ contribution to male mid-life-crisis-induced weird goatee combo. That’s surely the journalistic equivalent of missing an open goal?

Thanks for the positive feedback, glad you enjoyed it. These are exactly the types of conversations we need to be having. Ronaldo wearing a Dali needs only a black cape strung over his back to complete the look, but a team made up entirely of the moustached would quite possibly be the greatest show of virility this sport has ever seen. Blackburn is too easy though, they’ve probably already considered it. I vote Palermo.

By the way, for anyone interested in the Friday book, excuse the typo, apparently I was a little too excited. The actual more grammatical title is: The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw.

This is an excellent article, funny and pertinent. If I were on the board, you’d have my vote.

As for moustaches… I keep thinking how amusing C. Ronaldo would look with a DalÃ… what do you think? Perhaps the public ought to be able to vote (Strictly Come Dancing style) as to what type of haircut and facial hair arrangement their team’s players ought to sport (a word which gives us ample proof that these specimen should be on display at sporting events). Also, imagine the psychological disadvantage of playing against a WHOLE team of moustache-wearers. It could be Blackburn’s new tactic against Arsenal, an extra level of “roughing it up”.
