Hope Solo played as a forward in her first club which was until the end of high school. She switched to a goalkeeper and played for US junior national soccer teams for years before she debuted for US women football national team in 2000.

She was named a member of the Olympic 2004 US squad as an alternate. She became team’s first-choice goalie in 2005. She has recorded consecutive clean sheets and one of them lasted 1054 minutes.

In the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Solo gave away two goals in four games and the US coach dropped her out of the starting 11 in favor of the 36 year old Briana Scurry. US lost 4-0 to Brazil, ending a 51-game-undefeated-streak (regulation time). Solo said after the match that it was a wrong decision and that she could’ve saved all those goals.
