Great article Neil. I can't help but think that Perez is losing the plot. It's one thing bringing in 3 or 4 'Galacticos' but, as you say, the approach has gone belly-up in the past and the list of quality players heading for the door suggests they may be very light-on squad wise.

It's rumoured that they have had to back out of the Villa deal because they can't pay 50m+ for another player this season. That means a lot of player + cash deals if they want to bring in more stars.

Perez has to deliver the quick fix to the fans because of the promises made and the farcical political set-up at Real. Frankly, the whole thing is pathetic and smells to high heaven.

Most people will be willing them to fail next season. I know I will!

apologies for the factual oversight, unforgivable considering who the manager of Valencia was when they won the league in 2002!

Correction: Real Madrid did not win the La Liga and Champions League double in 2002. They won the CL in 2001-2002 (when Valencia were La Liga champions, and Depor were second - remember the days?), and La Liga in 2002-2003.

I'm dismayed by reports that Higuain may be involved in a player transfer in exchange for a striker or winger, but we will see, I don't think it will happen. I suspect Robben though will indeed go, and at a much lower price than we bought him for.

Any bets on which RM player goes out the door first? I say Sneijder, though I hope it's Heinze or Drenthe.
