Hatem Trabelsi? Again? Why?
Gooners will remember that a few summers ago, we were after highly rated Ajax fullback Hatem Trabelsi. He has just ended a World Cup campaign with Tunisia, and was largely impressive, their best player along with Jaziri. And a link with Arsenal has emerged again.
According to the Sunday Mirror, his agent has gone as far as stating that there is a contract offer from Arsenal for the fullback, whose contract at Ajax expires next month. The last time we were trying to sign him, doubts surfaced over his fitness and a particular recurring injury, and we then offered him only a pay-as-you-play contract. He didn’t like that very much and that died down.

As for this current report (if true), I don’t really get why we have offered him a contract, despite his quality and Champions League experience. We have Lauren returning in a few months from his operation at the end of last season, Eboue’s gone from strenght to strength following an excellent European campaign, breaking the defensive record in the process. Kerrea Gilbert is waiting in the wings, and from what I’ve seen of him, he looks like a very exciting prospect. Finally, Justin Hoyte is returning from his loan spell at Sunderland. Meaning we have four rightbacks at the club already. Do we really need to offer a contract to another one?
