LOL..this is quite funny! A very nice article indeed! At first I thought you are really ‘into’ hating players, but I realized that you’re just made it as a ‘tongue in cheek’. :p

Anyway, I think I mostly agree of all..especially with no.1, and the Hand of God as mentioned by FF..but not so with no.8 and 9. Well, I, as a fan, sometimes hate the refs too and abuse them on my tv; and as for the wealth, well, I think who got the brains and uses it, he wins. Cheers!

Ah, there but for the grace etc.etc.
Most passionate fans wanted nothing more than to make the grade themselves. The human condition is flawed and suspect to all the frailties you list as potential reasons players are hated…such is life. But which of us wouldn’t have wanted to be in their shoes regardless?

Hand of God. Best reason to hate a footballer, isn’t it ? Especially for english people. (It’s actually part of your no. 1 reason of bending the rules, but it deserves a special mention.) While I’m at it, I also have a special sympathy for Gentile and the way he took out Brazil and Argentina in 82, and for the whole squad of Italy 06 and how they won that Cup too. As you may remember from my article. But I don’t want to go too deep into this.

I respect players like John Terry and Rio Ferdinand for their passion but im starting to think that Christiano Ronaldo is just a hoax, he doesnt actually exist! I mean can anyone actually be that inlove with themselves and that arrogant? Well Ronaldo seems to be really desperate now, one day his head will get too big for his shoulders and he will collapse.

I agree with all ten reasons except the referee one i understand players shouting at the ref, i play football 4 times a week and rarely play with a ref (its mostly 5 a side) but on the rare occasions i do play with a ref i cant help but call him a wanker and insult him a little more because i feel so strongly about winning and when you are denied the win by somebody with more authority which you cant do anything about its upsetting
