Group of Death sees over 100 arrests made on Friday

Written by Soccerlens

There were more than 100 arrests made in the Euro 2008 host city of Berne on Friday.

Twenty people were arrested after a fight between French, Dutch and Swiss fans. A police officer confirmed two people were wounded in the clashes which involved at least forty people. Police also made 105 ”temporary arrests” for ”minor offences” after the match between the Netherlands and France, which the Dutch won 4-1.

“If you consider that the population of Bern virtually doubled [for the match], the balance sheet is still positive though,” Berne police spokesman Juerg Moesimann said.

In Zurich, which hosted Italy v Romania, 84 people were treated for injuries throughout the day. One man was knocked into a river, while another was found unconscious with head injuries shortly before midnight after the 1-1 draw, police said.
