I love this article!! Finally, someone can see that he can't score goals against good opposition on a consistent basis.

He never scored more than 10 league goals for Liverpool!! and his current league record is 55 in 205!!! Thats awful for any Striker!

I'm afraid, people are naive enough to think his height is a hindrance to his ability, but i'm afraid its actually the only thing that gets him into any squad! let alone England.

I think judgement of Crouch's quality has always been impaired by his height. People tend to think that because he's tall, he's a traditional target man, which is not really true. As an aerial presence he's not much, but just the sheer fact that he's on the pitch is very distracting to most defences. Also he's got a pretty fine footballing brain and sets up chances quite well.

Being 6 foot 8 myself i have to admit i have a soft spot for Crouchy. Pretty harsh article i thought and seems to follow the traditional treatment of extremly tall men inside and outside sport. Not that i'm complaining just something i have experienced myself on many occasions. I agree with Mike that he wasn't given a chance at Liverpool, which lets face it is the only top club he has played for. He's no Wayne Rooney but i think he is a proven goal scorer despite the fact he has had a very inconsistant run compared to most of his peers. Being a United fan i would have loved to have seen how many goals he could have got if he had played along side Beckham in his prime.

Er he was top scorer at Liverpool during 2006-07, and was frankly marginalised by Rafa Benitez the season after. He's also scored 16 goals at international level, including some stunners, which is more than you can say for Defoe. Considering he hasn't had some great runs in teams, his scoring record is pretty good.

Yes I agree with you that too much money has been spent on him but remember that he formed a fantastic striking partnership with Jermain Defoe for Portsmouth and often worked well with Rooney or Owen for England. However I think he is hugely over-rated and not as good as Darren Bent, so Redknapp has made a mistake in my mind. However he does appear to be a generally nice person and he is definitley a lot better than the English strikers behind him.
