Neville has been great for Utd, an absolute legend and though he has admittedly been crap thus far, Its only a matter of time before he regains that sharpness and shows everyone that he is still the best rightback at Manchester Utd. (keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't make me eat my words) but seriously i think he will be back!!

Scott, you realise that a 'captain' must be a leader on the pitch as well as off it? Neville has a problem Scholes or Giggs don't have, he has the captaincy armband. If he doesn't play, why is he captain?

Other than that I agree, he should stick around for another season.

I'd have to agree with the majority here, (slight, 3 to 2 is it?) and say it is time for Gary to step aside. Scott makes a good point as to his experience being utilised but I suspect it will be utilised in a non playing capacity. Neville will be part of United for a long time but he just hasn't got what it takes to play for the first team anymore. He lacks lace and his passing has been close to woeful at times. Perhaps he can prove us wrong and return to past form but I doubt it.

I would rather see Neville retire than see him turn up for League Cup matches and forced to play with the squad players and kids. That to me is no way to end such a fantastic playing career.

Live fast die young!

Nope, Scott. Gary is done. Unlike Scholsey and Giggs who have adapted with their age, Gary can't. Partly coz he is a right back and due to his injuries, one without much pace and stamina. Very difficult. But i really hope he can make it.

I think you and those writing about the end of a glorious career are wrong.
With his character, Gary will not just stand aside and "give" his place to a youngster who has just emerged. I will admit that it looks good for United to have the option of a young and hungry heir to the RB position but the young lacks Gary's years of experience of big games and tense end of season slog.
I believe that SAF knows this and will use Gary to bring Rafael and the other young defenders along. Look at Ryan (and Scholes to a lesser extent). United have a very good selection of younger promising midfield players but at times when the going gets tough those that have "done it and got the tee shirts" can be brought on and calm the situations or add patience to the attack.
I for one thinks that Gary will be around for another 1 or 2 more season but will be used sparingly for the Prem League but in training and in other cup matches will show why they and United are as successful as they have been by not only be exceptionally skillful but have the mental strength to come back 1-0 down and get a vital win or draw from impossible positions. Gary will continue and give his best to United.
