Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is closing in on a transfer away from Anfield this summer.

The defensive midfielder was signed by Rafa Benitez back in 2007 and has spent nine seasons at Liverpool.

The Reds are looking to offload all of their fringe players this summer and after having sold quite a few players already it seems that Lucas is next in line.

The South American defensive midfielder failed to impress Klopp last season and the German is ready to let go of a high earning fringe player now. Turkish side Galatasaray are interested in signing the former Gremio midfielder and according to latest reports, a fee has been agreed.

Recently, Galatasaray’s manager confirmed the club’s interest in Lucas.

Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”

Apparently Lucas Leiva has accepted a deal worth 2.7 million Euros per-season with Galatasaray and the Turkish side have offered Liverpool a fee of around 2.5 million Euros for the Brazilian.

Lucas has been a loyal servant for Liverpool for almost a decade, but the Brazilian never quite managed to fulfill his potential following his horrible injury against Chelsea in the League cup, a few seasons ago.

A move away from Liverpool could be a blessing in disguise for Lucas. The Brazilian has struggled to play regularly at Anfield over the last few seasons and has therefore been overlooked for the national team.

Regular football with Galatasaray could well open up a door for him once again, as far as a Brazil call up is considered.
