I find it laughable how this incident has been reported. As you mentioned there wasn't actually any booing. It was in fact "ironic-cheering". Cheering that was aimed at the manager rather than the player. There's been a feeling that Gabby was "untouchable" and many of those feelings were expressed when the substitution was made, hence the cheers. There are a few fans that think Gabby is "lazy" as he doesn't chase every ball. Those peopole are idiots. However the vast majority appreciate his talent and what he brings to the team. He was integral in the 13 match unbeaten run playing alone up front. The amount of work he did running the channels was unbelievable. As a result I think he's now counting the cost as he's absolutely shattered. Ledley King out-sprinted him last week. I know King is quick but he's not as quick as Gabby. That tells me the fuel tank is running low.

In terms of the bigger picture I also think most fans appreciate we're heading in the right direction and that there will be blips and winless runs. Athough I admit rising expectations are an issue.

All in all I think this is a bit of a non-story. Granted, O'Neill could have handled it better and could have said "It was aimed at me". The fact that he had a go at the fans has turned it into something the media could work on which has led to the media coverage.

However I certainly don't think anyone needs to be looking at themselves in the mirror.

The issue isn't his ability, but the behavious of the fans, which was shocking. I'd like to see them do better, or put in more for the club.
