Well on the subject of liverpools midfield theres no way lucas can make it Gerrard and Mascherano are too good. Maybe Rafas Rotation will find a way for him?

Ive watched both these players heres what ive seen.

Lucas: Positives he is a good passer, got a decent shot, he has a natural flow to his game much like iniesta. Negatives he is very bad in the air and he hasnt got a lot of influence on a match.

Anderson: Positives again a good passer, a talented finisher, very comfortable on the ball, can compete agaisnt top players. Negatives again he has very little influence in his game

If Lucas can take tips from Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso (3 very talented cms) then he can get better and better and maybe become a very good player for the future. Anderson doesnt have much experience around on the field Giggs and Scholes are not long but if he can form a partnership in the great Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez combination he could also become an important player.

Denilson will be ahead of them both on talent. He keeps his feet, has balls like an ox, and passes like a dainty little fairy. Not for nothing is he called the Fabregas of Arsenal's Reserves. But he is starved of opportunities with Fab, Flam, Diarra, Diaby and Song in front of him. Hah! Song.

Anderson and Lucas will be judged on what they accomplish in England. Give them a year before you heap praise upon their slender young shoulders. For shame! Neither has even been indicted in a rape case, or been caught in a three-way with trashy, whore-like WAGs. Give them time to adjust to English culture.

Lucas isn't an attacking midfielder. He was used by Gremio as half-attacking midfielder and half-holding midfielder because Gremio played in 2006 with a 4-5-1 formation. He is surprisingly good at long shots. Maybe he is not as mature as Mascherano and it would also be a waste if he played in that position. However, if Benitez pushes Gerrard forward I think Lucas must play. Anderson, to the astonishment of many brazilian fans and midia pundits, is playing in another position he is not used to play. But from the games I have seen he surely adapted himself quickly in that position.

Lucas is an attacking mid-fielder with the ability to break up play. Thats where we'll see him play, if Benitez can find a formation to accommodate him AND Gerarrd, without sacraficing the balance of the team.

It is pretty sad seeing a player with the offensive skills such as Anderson being used as a Defensive Midfielder but i suspect that this is only because the Canadian is injured.

The future of Brazil's midfield is incredible. Denilson, Anderson and Luca will form quite back bone.

To Arvin: Bot to Box midfielders can also be defensive midfielders. It's just an attribute mate. Lucas is a defensive mdfielder with that attribute in his game.

Unfortunatley for Lucas, his first team opportunities will be severely restricted for the forseeable future at LFC. If, as predicted, Benitez continues with a 4-4-2 formation which gives Lpool the platform to perform and hence win games, then it will be Mascherano and not Lucas, who lines up alongside Gerrard in the centre of midfield. As anyone who has observed Mascherano's performances since he has arrived at Liverpool can attest, he is probably the best holding-midfielder in the world. Continued interest from Barcelona in the player would be of no surprise then. Lucas has the potential to be a great box to box midfielder. The myth of him as a holding midfielder is just that. Tim Vickery, the much respected south america football correspondent for the BBC and World Soccer Magazine, has himself predicted a very promising future for Lucas, but he himself would be the first to admit that for as long as Mascherano and Gerrard are at Lpool, Lucas is down the pecking order. Having said that, in many fans' eyes, he has moved himseld ahead of Sissoko and is on the verge of taking Alonso's place in the regular match day squad.

I guess we'll have to wait and see on Lucas.

Tim Vickery wrote an interesting article about Brazil midfielders, or perhaps it was in answer to a reader's question. Furrage through the BBC archives and you're sure to find it.

I am so lucky to be a Gremio supporter and to be able to see them both growing up as a player. Dunga's policy in picking his squad is beginning to being questioned so I think soon we'll see Lucas and Anderson playing for Brazil.
