How can Fulham improve this summer?
As part of our 2006/2007 Premiership season-end review, here’s a look at how Fulham’s season went. Read up, then offer your own advice on how Fulham can improve this summer.
- Pre-season expectations: I’m not sure how well Fulham were expected to do given the lack of funds, but overall I’d say Chris Coleman wanted Fulham to push for a top-10 spot.
- Season evaluation: Fulham barely survived and ended 1 point above the relegation zone. To say that it is was a disappointing season would be a massive understatement.
- The Big Negative: The lack of fight shown by the players – I mean, Watford played harder, Sheffield United played much harder than Fulham.
- The Big Positive: Survival. Fulham live to fight another season in the Premiership, and with the new TV deal this means the club can invest more into the squad.
- Summer Priority: Lawrie Sanchez rebuild the squad, and push Fulham back up the table. Anything – mid-table mediocrity even (think Boro) – would be better than what Fulham went through this season.
Fulham need investment, but perhaps more importantly they need self-belief and the will to fight.
Now it’s your turn: How do you think Fulham can improve this summer?

Straight from the Manifesto of the bleedin obvious! Remind me, you guys don’t get paid for this by any chance?
May 31st, 2007 @ 21:36Let`s hope the “investment” promised by M.A.F. is sufficient to rebuild the side. After 41 years of watching, this past season was the most “gutless” of any side i have witnessed.
May 31st, 2007 @ 21:43pandy, the idea is to start a discussion, you aggressive fool! where`s your contribution then ?
May 31st, 2007 @ 21:53We need to sort out the Defence!! That is the obvious thing!! Rosenior and Quedrue are more than capible Full backs!! We need two new CB. Mayb one to play with Bocca!! I think Zakuani could be an option as he looked impressive on loan at stoke!
Midfield is the one place (apart from keeper(maybe?)) that we are sorted!! Oh Radz has left so we need a left winger!! Maybe bring up the younger players? Timlin is a left winger!!
We need a striker with Pace!! I also think we should play John more next season!! Lok at last season! We didnt play him every game and he was still our top scorer with some amazing goals!! He has the class and ability to score goals!! If given a chance I think he could score 15-20. He is only 21-22 years old!! Still plenty to come! Runstrom also looks good. Saw him play for luton and he did quite well!!
May 31st, 2007 @ 22:55i do agree wid kylie dat keeper we av a got dat covered (provided he stays) nd midfield is ok, especially if bullard comes back. i dont think radz is much of a lose he was da biggest bottlejob in the premiership. i feel we should bring up the youngers but we seem to release all our up n coming stars. I think volz is better dan rosenior at right back but they are both capable nd quedrue is solid, but we do need another good cb with bocca. A pacey forward would be ideal with Brian in the air a player playing of him would do us well. However John is not the player to do that, he think he is better than he is, he is too lazy to get 15-20 goals and although he got potetional to one day get around that, his lack of passion will stop him fromm ever doing it.
June 1st, 2007 @ 02:56Fullbacks and CM are our only positions without glaring needs (Volz, Rosenior, Queudrue and Bullard, Dempsey, Diop/Brown…)
We need more depth players, and a couple of young players to make the step up (Zakuani, Runstrom…)
GK is not sorted – Niemi was great but we need to bring in a no. 2 – we’ve been linked to Scott Carson, but if he came in and was the no.1, Niemi might want to leave and we’d still need a backup GK!
2 more starting quality CBs has to be a priority, Knight and Christanval can leave.
Left Winger – this is a real need – we’ve been linked with Lee Cook (QPR) and Chris Brunt (Shef Wed), both are young winger who excelled in the championship last season.
June 4th, 2007 @ 17:26Steven Davis – this guy has talent and is available, if we get him, we might look to sell Diop or Brown.
Striker – David Healy isn’t as certain now that Sunderland may have joined the bidding – but we need a guy with a nose for goals. We’ve also been linked with Walter Pandiani, but he has to be a long shot to sign. Collins John or Helguson to move on..
