Frustrated Kagawa demands explanation from Moyes for his bit-part role

Shinji Kagawa has spoken out of frustration and has told reporters to ask David Moyes, why he has not received ample playing time for Manchester United so far.

#FreeShinji campaign started by Dortmund fans

Kagawa was signed by the previous United manager Sir Alex Ferguson last summer from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund. The diminutive Japanese failed to produce a string of consistent performance in an injury-hit campaign, but showed sparks of brilliance occasionally (hat-trick against Norwich) to raise hope among the United fans about his vast potential.

However, Kagawa is expected to play a prominent role this season but with no league games under his belt so far (only seven minutes of football, that too coming off the bench against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield), frustration is rightly creeping in, first from the fans and now the player himself.

Kagawa, didn’t even feature as substitute in the 1-0 defeat away to Liverpool that prompted Dortmund fans to start a #FreeShinji campaign on Twitter, as the 24-year-old has had been linked with a return to his former club this summer.

Kagawa, who scored in Tuesday’s 3-1 win for Japan against Ghana, admitted he has been left frustrated by the cold treatment of his manager.

He told AFP news agency: “Please ask David Moyes why I’m not in the side.

“It is frustrating not playing but to score a goal like that gives me confidence. Hopefully I can take that back to my club with me and things will improve.

“It’s hard not playing regularly. Some days the frustration is worse than others; it comes in waves.”

However, Kagawa has decided to remain grounded and work hard to get his chances and is hopeful of getting opportunities in coming matches. Kagawa has made 26 appearances for the Red Devils and scored six goals last season.
