Frustrated Foster wants to leave Manchester United

According to the News of the World, Manchester United keeper Ben Foster is ready to leave Manchester United in search of more first-team opportunities.

Thanks to injuries and Edwin Van der Sar refusing to go away quietly, Foster hasn’t made quite the expected impact at United yet, and a winter transfer request could be in the cards.

Foster’s got the abilities to be Manchester United’s #1 at some point, but with Van der Sar signing on for another season (and who knows, he might not even hang it up then!), Foster has to think realistically. He’s 25, and for the sake of his future and his ambitions of being England’s #1 in the future, a move might be in his best interests. Van der Sar’s still got a lot left, and with Tomasz Kuszczak also in the running to be his successor, nothing is assured.

Sir Alex Ferguson may be reluctant to consider selling Foster, so he might prefer letting him go on loan, if anything. However, knowing that he can’t assure Foster of anything, he may well have to consider a sale if the right offer comes in.

Should Foster leave United for the sake of his career, or should he be patient and wait until he gets his chance at United?

    REFUSING TO GO AWAY?

Van der Sar won us the Champions League and is still a great keeper. It is good that he signed a new deal.

Foster is still an unknown quantity. Someone that did well for a season at Watford isn’t a proven United #1. I don’t necessarily believe a word that is printed, but if he feels like he needs forst team football elsewhere and is not prepared to fight for his place to become our #1 keeper for at least 10 years (if he is as good as people say he is) then quite frankly, he can F-off

Whoa whoa, don’t take offense to the comment about Van der Sar. Shoot, as long as he’s playing at a top level, he can stay around for another three, four seasons even.

I just meant it in reference to him keeping Foster’s chances limited. No offense meant in the least.

I hope Fergie keeps him. It’s so difficult with keepers as they don’t get the opportunity to come on for a ‘run-out’ like outfield players do.

I had hoped this would be the season where Foster would be transitioned to the No.1 slot. VDS was looking shaky earlier in the season and the timing seems about right but Utd management need to decide whether they think he is good enough or not.
