Liverpool have been reportedly keeping a close tab on former Barcelona goal keeper Victor Valdes for the past few months. First choice goal keeper Simon Mignolet has had cut a frustrating figure and it was believed that Liverpool might sign a new goal keeper to replace him in January.

Recently Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers gave an interview to AS, where he claimed that the club is not looking to sign any Spanish player, indirectly hinting that Liverpool’s interest in Valdes have cooled down.

Looking for new challenges, Victor Valdes could end up at Manchester United

Yesterday, reports emerged that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has offered Valdes, a free agent, a chance to train complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness.

“Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has offered the 32-year-old former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes a chance to complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness with the club.” a statement read on United’s official website.

“Valdes, a free agent, will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness.”

Now Mundo Deportivo claims that Valdes is already in Manchester for training, and will undergo a medical in next few days. There are suggestions in the media that the Spaniard might replace his compatriot David de Gea at the club. Such ideas seem far fetched, but there’s no doubt that Valdes will bolster the side and add a strong competition for the goal keeping spot.
