I think City could do with a lot more all round depth and quality to the squad. Some quality, young and hungry players like Hamsik, Pastore, McCarthy, Miranda, Feghouli, Van Der Wiel, Martinez should be considered as well as the likes of Silva, Eto'o, Chiellini, Tevz etc. They need to plan for the future and invest in potential as well as strengthening for the here and now.

I like Mark Hughes as a manager but question some of his signing's like Bellamy (his favourite), Ben Haim and De Jong. Has he really got a good enough eye for a player and is he shrewd enough to take Man City to the next level?

I think he is ruthless enough though and he could do with clearing out Vassell, Ball, Garrido, Mills, Hamann, Ben Haim, Benjani and even a stalwart like Dunne.

If they make the right signings this summer then i also think they could finish as high as 6th.

As a Spurs fan 'luckyspurs' has a perspective and expertise vis-a-vis Beautiful Losing that we should all be grateful to him for. Pay attention now, De Jong is crap and will soon be "out on his ear". Elano is "good enough to play anywhere," but, as he said this morning at anywhere but Shitty. De Jong's preferred position, he says, is at right back or centre back. I thought he was super as a wing back when I saw him just tear up Feyenoord every which way at a game in Rotterdam when he was, I think, seventeen. Sparky may be experimenting with Kompany  and DeJong, but it's not necessarily going to work. I love the way this fucking guy tackles

Kompany is a centre back next season, he will also be given the captaincy. Petrov is off to Spurs so he won't be in City's plans next season.

Yes but it's a project & btw he didn't play Richards & Dunne at cb he played Onouaha there. Dunne will be gone in the summer. Barry or De Jong will play DM & Kompany will play cb.

Lucky, You're obsessed with stats, which is your prerogative, but, even though Santa Cruz is way overpriced, the intangible stuff he does goes unrecognized. He is particularly good at blind-siding goalkeepers as they post up during corners and very good at being the third centre back and organizing the defence for the ultra-passive Paul Robinson when Rovers are defending against free kicks and corners. Ronaldo has been chinned more than a few times by him and tends to keep moving when he's in for corners. He's far brighter than Darren Bent who is worth, what, 18M to you guys and 10M to everybody else. So I'd say he's worth 10-12M.

Elano is world class but only with brazil.. he sucks with city...
i wish inter would buy him he'd flop worse than mancini and quaresma.
Tevez and barry are great signing but i think they should also get trezguet.

Elano's a very good player, Duff. City just dont play him enough. In the 2007/08 season, he was terrific whenever he played. Some of his freekicks were brilliant !

With Real linked with every single attacking player left, right and centre, why doesn't City make a bid for one of the dutch contingent, all of Sneijder, Robben and VDV can play on the left. Dunne is a liability more than a leader, how about Zapata of Udinese, Lugano of Galatasary, or Lorik Cana of Marseilles (who can also deputise at defensive midfield). The Tevez and Eto'o deals seem a bit iffy, a little speculative as both players are unlikely to move to a Europa League team unless two things happen, one, they're teams replace them with Benzema and Ibrahimovic respectively, and two no other Champions League team wants them. I think City would have better luck looking at Marouane Chamakh or Fernando Cavegni from Bordeaux, Andre-Pierre Gignac of Toulouse, Oscar Cardozo of Benfica, or Ezeqial Lavezzi of Napoli. I realise none of my recommended strikers have any Premier League experience, but do you really want the Newcastle strikeforce up front?

Sneijder would probably turn his nose up on the idea of playing for City, but Robben might come for the money, if they do thing right they could line up next season as:

    --------------Lavezzi--------------
    ---------Robinho---Hamsik----------
    Robben--------------------------SWP
    ---------------Barry---------------
    Bridge----Lescott--Kompany-Richards
    ---------------Given---------------

Bench: Hart, Lugano, Zabaleta, Ireland, Cavegni

Ireland won't be moved to the bench after the season he's had, and I cant see Hamsik coming this summer either. They need to invest in a world class defender and another top quality forward and I can see them easily in 5th next year.

If Liverpool and Arsenal don't spend, they'll be in trouble. If the Scousers lose Mascharano and don't find a quality replacement, they'll be back to where they were. If the Arse lose Fabregas, Adebayor and Van Persie, it's impossible to believe they can be instantaneously replaced. So, yeah, Shitty can make it into the top four if certain circumstances take place.

Liverpool don't look likely to spend, Masch will probably stay, but they won't address the key issues sufficiently, 2-3rd at best. Arsenal seem set to add some steel, I expect Ade to run off to Milan faster than he's run all season, I doubt Cesc will leave just yet (I expect he's waiting for Xavi's legs to give out first) and RYP leaving may not be a bad thing with Vela looking impressive. Chelsea are an unknown entity for now as Ancelotti is pretty tough to predict in the transfer market. Ferguson has a pretty deep squad littered with quality players, but Rafael needs help at right back. I expect a mini exodus from Villa as I'm sure the squad were hoping for Champions League football and the loss of their captain (regardless of his morals) will be a blow to the squad. City will probably end up 5th or 6th, but if Liverpool suffer key injuries early on and Chelsea make some blunders in the transfer market they may pip 4th.

Vela's a good little striker, but he's not going to take RVPs place on the wing. The Spanish language pundits here have Fabregas in at A.C. Milan to take Kaka's place and be with his mates Flamini and Senderos. A lot, they say, depends on whether Berlusconi signs Adebayor, because Fab doesn't like him as a teammate. Aston Villa ought to be very interesting because Lerner's Wachovia Holdings here jn the U.S.are booming. Surely they won't flog Young to Chelsea, unless it's mad money AND Joe Cole. I have no clue what Michael Owen can do to up the goal quotient when he's about as banged up as Ledley King. I would have thought that Young would be marvellous in tandem with a certain Ruud Van Nistelrooy instead. Villa do have money, but we'll have to see if O'Neill can be shrewd enough to spend it right. Now that Barry's gone, I'm interested to see whether Nigel Reo-Coker can do his job. When it comes to Shitty, you wonder about Santa Cruz, Jo and the thumb-sucker in competition with Tevez. Plus they've got that big kid, Calcedo, who looks like he's going to bloom soon. Just like with United, there's no way Tevez'll start every game.

RVP was never the solution for the left wing, Arsene has tried and failed to find a good left winger, Robin Van Fluffs-it was always a cetral player which makes Vela a like for like replacement, Arsene should address the Left Wing problem, Arshavin is the most adept out there, but has said repeatedly that he would prefer a more central role in the line-up. If Arsene is shrewd there is a certain Wesley Sneijder on the market as well as a healthier-than-his-chelsea-days Robben and if the sheik's deal falls through, Niko Kranjkar may be propositioned at a bargain price. My money's on Adebayor to Milan, honestly, after this season would you rather have Adebayor or Fabregas leaving your team? Ashley Young would definitely be worth a Joe Cole plus cash, I'd have suggested him go to Arsenal but we know how monsieur Wenger abhors the English players he didn't raise himself nor does he have the cash to even consider it. If O'Neill can convince Van Nistelrooy to see out his career at Villa park, I'd say that's more than a brilliant transfer considering how he could not only bang in the goals but teach Heskey and Carew what the opposition goal looks like. Reo-Coker may or may not have a promising future ahead of him, but I'm pretty sure he's behind a certain Chelsea reject by the name of Steve Sidwell in O'Neills pecking order. By the way bobotonto, which part of the states are you in? I'm heading to California for college in the fall.

Sids is a left back. At least he was the last time I saw him play with Reading. You can check my profile info, blog, etc., by clicking on my name. I live in Chicago. I hope you're in Northern California, much better than LaLaLand!

Sidwell looks more comfortable in the centre of the park, but at least between him and Reo-Coker, O'Neill is buying English. I am headed to southern California, USC mate
