With Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all now well-known for their poaching of talented youngsters from all around the world (indeed, Liverpool have just signed exciting 16 year old Gerardo Bruna from Real Madrid), I wonder if it isn't slightly worrying that no-one wants to take our youngsters. When was the last time you heard of a great young English talent being stolen by Barca or Juventus? I don't know if it's because of the superiority of our academies and scouting systems or the the relative poorness of foreign scouting systems, but it is question of some interest I feel.

Not good enough i guess. In Brazil kids are just phenomenal. Check out Jean Carlos Chera! Trust me, you will get a shock when you see that kid's skills!

    WOW THAT KID IS AMAZING!

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

Forget kids, how many adult english players are currently plying their trade overseas? Another point is which league pays as much money as the premier league?

    Why is this, though?

The nature of the English game? Lack of talent in English players? (tell me, honestly - do you think Lampard could be a success at Barcelona?). Unlucky role-models (recent examples being Owen, who did nothing wrong at Real Madrid but was a victim of the club's internal problems, and Woodgate, who suffered similar setbacks)? Do we see this as a defect of the English system - either we are not producing good enough players, or we are producing players who are not rounded enough to adjust to the demands of another league?

Does anyone even know if Spanish and Italian clubs send scouts to watch English youth matches? Why was there no interest abroad in players like James Vaughan??

A lot of these kids from abroad are effectively being stolen by the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea because in Italy it is illegal to register a player under contract before he is 18. So, as in the case of Giuseppe Rossi, Parma invest a considerable amount of time and money investing in the youngster, only to see him snatched from underneath their noses by Man United just months before his 18th birthday. Underhand? Yep. Bad for the good of the game? Almost certainly.

Because English clubs have the backing to keep their players. As shown by the saga surrounding Nathan Porritt, its nigh on impossible to steal an English youngster.

Tribunal fees are dangerous things. You have no idea what they'll be, and you're obliged to pay them for a player who might not even be any good. It doesn't seem the same on the continent - much easier as gilgillespie said.

Bottom line: English youngsters are overpriced (because of the money around the Premier) and all the foreign top clubs can get better players and cheaper somewhere else.
