I'll evaluate the top contenders.
Italy
Too many old players, not enough, young tlaent. An aging Buffon won't be as good as in 2006. With so many old players, the stars will almost all retire, and those who won't will have less skill. Of course, Italy are and always have been a superpower, so anything's possible.

Spain
Of course they have one of the best, if not the best team in the world -- world-class strikers, goalies, and midfielders (I wouldn't say so with defenders, though). But they've always been underachievers, and while they did win the Euros, I doubt they'll repeat their success at the world stage. Very good, nonetheless.

England
Yes, they are a contender. I think that their wealth of players will finally help them to do something big. If only they had a quality goalkeeper...anyway, as long as they don't get into too many shootouts, they're a contender, and a big one.
Rating: Decent
Germany
I think the best chance of any team this upcoming World Cup. I think it's just a gut feeling, but a) they haven't won in a long time and b) they are effective nd experienced at winning things. So many good players and such good teamwork, craftsmanship, and all that...I think they will be celebrating.

Holland
This is going to biased, of course. I'm not really sure what to say about them. They are -- well, they've lost something in Nistelrooy. He was the team, the winner, the everybody. And with van der Sar. Stekelenburg will, sadly enough, have to be starting goalkeeper, which ain't good. They have many, many good young players, but not many brilliant players, and I think that will be the deciding factor. It also matters what coach they will have. I hope they win, though. Ga Nederland!

Portugal
Such overrated losers...sorry for my bluntness, butit's true. In the Euros they lost to a below-average Germany 1-3. Of course, Nani has potential, but I doubt Ronaldo hasn't reached his peak yet, so they will NOT do well. Bye!
Rating: Futile
France
France have many of their key players retiring and many superstars emerging and I really want them to win. Domenech is a good coach, and whenever there is agood coach, a team has always got a chance to win. South Africa will also be (environment-wise, that is) a lot like France, so they'll be O.K. with that. What bothers me is their will to win. I just don't think they really have it. Watch out for Ribery, Nasri, and Benzema. And maybe Landreau. France need to beef up their defense to get anywhere, though. Not many good defenders.
Rating: Pretty good
Brazil
They play such beautiful football and have the most talented team in the world, but something tells me they will turn out like they did in the WC 2006. I hope they don't. I want to see their brand of football right up until the final whistle, though I don't think it'll happen. Scolari was their skeleton before, and without him, they're just skin, blood, and bile. I hope they do get somewhere, though.
Rating: O.K.
Argentina
I think they will be in the final with Germany. They're a lot liek Brazil -- free-flowing, attacking, and mostly, amazing passers of the ball. That helps them. It also helps that they've one of the largest backings in the world and that they've got Oscar Ustari and Carlos Tevez and the bunch. That helps them too. They want to sow what they've got. Aguero, Tevez, and Mascherano will make a splash, and Messi blow all the water out of the pool. But I don't think they'll QUITE win it. Another gut feeling. Maybe I've got indigestion.
Rating: Quite good
