Interesting story on why Vieira missed the Euros here.
I don't think a single drug would have made the difference between him missing the Euros and going to them...not that he himself would have made much of a difference in that abysmal campaign.

is it only illegal in france or is it a completely banned substance in football?

it's illegal in France but since Sagnol asked the Bayern physio to get it I'm guessing it's legal in Germany and therefore probably legal in other European countries as well.
