I think you've answered all the doubts with that Hambug. Owen will be a sound addition to the squad, everyone with a reputation in football that has spoken about Owen's move have only said positive things. It's only the media and fans that doubt his abilities.

every team needs an out and out goalscorer and despite owens injuries, he will never lose the ability to find the back of the net. wouldnt mind putting a bet on him being top english goalscorer next season.

I like the Owen signing because it leaves it all up to him. I don't like Eto'o's attitude, either, but I really think Huntelaar's asking price is way more than he's worth. At the moment the Eredvisie is, arguably. even weaker than the SPL. He's streaky at best, slow-witted, capable of five quick steps and tires easily. Welbeck and Macheda are already on the cusp of leaving him in the dust. After the Berbatov fiasco I am completely bamboozled as to how Huntelaar can be compared to RVN or make amends for the hole left by Tevez's departure. If it/s about gambling for goal scorers with an instant payoff why not Magnus Berg, Vedad Ibiševic or Demba Ba?
I STILL MISS NOBBY & BOBBY!!! -

I can only guess at the fact that they don't have as much to prove as Huntelaar. He would have been hurt by his Madrid fiasco, and if we play Madrid in the CL then we want someone with more of an acquaintance of Spanish football. Sneijder would probably be a better choice in that aspect, but SAF will have other reasons behind the Huntelaar move that we're not aware of.
I'm sure he see's something in the guy, he'd of had scout reports and not just stabbed in the dark with his interest. He probably even had a level of awareness that Calderon would decline and Perez would takeover, essentially making the Hunts position all the more vulnerable. With this knowledge, he should be able to buy the guy at a lower price than what Madrid paid, as despite what los Blancos claim they need the money after their extravagance.
What I'm eventually getting at is that Fergie knew that what has happened would happen and planned around it, he would have been mulling over it the minute the final whistle went in Rome. Lets have faith.

Richard, You're starting to sound like Ahmed Shah when anyone dares to criticize Berbatov: 'The Gaffer has his reasons!' He's the best British manager ever, but he's not fucking Yoda. I would love it if I'm proven wrong. I will say one thing, though. Huntelaar has stated repeatedly that he really wants to play for United. That kind of desire can never be a bad thing!

I'm not reacting to criticism of Berba, just of the move for Huntelaar. I'm fully behind it. The man's life is to nurture the team and not just think about it in his spare time, so I'm sure he knows a few more things than us. Outside of a few flaws, he is a little like Yoda...

Huntelaar would be a brilliant signing. he is at a good age (25) and is a goalscorer. 8 in 20 for real since he joined and that is whilst adapting to a new league. safe to say owen wont always be fit and someone will have to come up with goals consistently. and considering united fans have been on about outbidding real madrid for the likes of benzema and ribery this summer money shouldn't be a factor.
