Just like the global credit crunch, the world's football giants are falling once and for all. Udinese are at the top in Italy. Groningen are astonishing the big teams in the Netherlands. Hoffenheim are famously topping the Bundesliga standings, and the team from up north are 3rd in the Prem. Valencia have risen from the dead and, along with their grim reaper David Villa, are conquering the conquistadores in Spain. Le Mans, despite selling star striker Tulio De Melo in the summer, are third in the Ligue 1 ahead of Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Makelele-inspired PSG.

Just imagine a Champions league group stage match next year: Hull City vs. Hoffenheim. How strange, but, in an inexplicable way, exciting. To see two newly promoted sides in the Champions League would be a breath of fresh air and would be a lesson to teams like Tottenham and Dortmund that you can't buy success. Just for an odd bit of fun, I thought I would post the most used line-up of the two teams. Post your predictions below.

UEFA Champions League 2009-10 Group A

Hull City A.F.C. vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

KC Stadium, Kingston Upon Hull, England

    Hull City:

    4-4-2
Myhill; Doyle, Dawson, Turner, Ricketts; Ashbee, Geovanni, Boateng, Halmosi; King, Fagan

    TSG 1899 Hoffenheim:

    4-3-3
Haas; Beck, Janker, Vorsah, Nilsson; Carlos Eduardo, Salihovic, Teber; Ibisevic, Obasi, Wellington

Prediction: Hull City A.F.C. 2-3 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

What do you think? Could this match really be possible? If you do think so, who would win?

Cheers to the global football crisis.

Hull gonna win 1-0...but I'm afraid that Hull will be like Wigan 2 or 3 seasons ago, sitting pretty on 2nd place and then, slowly drop places...

mufan's utter lack of knowledge of English makes his joke all the funnier. Haha!!

lol @ 8Ace - mate, do intro yourself in the Lounge when you get a chance.

@ GT - yea man, I can totally see it happening, although technically they would be bottom seeds and therefore unable to be in the same group.

However, the changes to the Champions League format (details here) mean that the two could meet in CL qualifying. Imagine the stakes riding on that game.

    I call penalty shootout...

Ahmed, if Hoffenheim won the Bundesliga would they still be bottom seeds?
