This was United's best game this season. They finally played well, there was no Carrick to spoil it all and they kept it together, despite Scholes' mistimed tackling.

What a performance by the devils, down to ten men for a third of the game and still beat the form side in the league comfortably. Anderson (1st goal, brill) and Fletcher were awesome they look to have been born to play in that system, Evra played probably his best game in a United shirt so far, Rooney was poor but he scored so who cares  , the whole defence was solid throughout with Oshea, Vida and Rio solid as a rock altogether. Giggs played his link up role perfectly and what a brilliant free kick to level things up. Only disappointments really, Carrick and Scholes simply for being sent off, he played well other than that. (not forgetting Fosters brilliant save and overall performance)

4-4-2 is clearly our best formation, was great to see Ando put in such a good performance after being moved to the reserves only last week. Showed he's ready to fight tooth and nail for this club which is good.

One of my favourite performers from the game was Evra though, went head to head with Corluka even though he's twice the size and put Lennon in his pocket after the abysmal Carling Cup display and despite Lennon being on such good form for both club and country. Apparently Spurs haven't lost at home for quite some time, I forget how long but I saw something about it on the BBC website.

Ignore my other post on this, I was clearly too late with it

Evra was on another planet to the rest of the players on that field, he single handedly ran rings round both Lennon and Corluka.

Without a doubt. I still hate Jon Champion, he's so anti United that commentator. I was hoping he would just go away after setanta went under.

If only Evra could shoot! For me, this was Fletcher's best ever, especially once Redknapp pulled Palacios. A great work-rate from everybody. No use complaining about Berbatov, but what you see is what you get! Fine fine teamwork today!

I STILL MISS NOBBY & BOBBY!!!

haha, arthon i love that part "no carrick to spoil it".excellent performance.just goes to show how well we can do if the selection in midfield is right.rooney for the ballon d'or 2010!

Rooney tired out towards the end, I think Scholes's sending off caused him to take up the load of 2 men and help the team out, which in turn tire him out.

Wicked freekick by Giggs, his presence made sure no one panicked after the sending off.

was quite surprised Fletcher played on the right of midfield. but he was everywhere! Great assist for Rooney's goal.

I totally agree with you. Just by looking at the starting 11, there was no Valencia, no Nani and no Owen and we still played brilliantly. Although I still worry alot about the team's performances in the future, I've calmed down and realized the Gaffer did it once again. :D ...only if we could get a playmaker. Or Hargo back.

Fletcher demonstrated that passing ability I've been harping on about with a great through ball to Rooney, he's putting in quality performances week after week wherever he plays. The only game he hasn't featured is the loss to Burnley I think.

Speaking of playmakers Arthon, wouldn't Diego be a fantastic addition? Would probably mean more tinkering with the formation though and it looks settled at 4-4-2. Melo would have been another great two Juve signing for us but now Hargo's coming back I don't think we need another destructive midfielder.

Well, I"m not sure Diego would have succeeded in the Premier League, but you never know. He is deffinitely a great player, Werder without him was total shite. Also, I'm not sure Juventus is going to let him go. Ever.

Edit: Actually, forget about what I said here. He played for Porto, we have quite some players from Portugal, so he would have done a great job. Too bad we used Arsenal's spending policy this summer.

He's a proper trequartista player and provides a lot of food for thought for anyone trying to do the Makelele. As you said though, I can't see him leaving Juve any time soon but we can always talk fantasy football.

Okay, Besiktas anyone? I think we need to play our squad players for this one, its not a game which is vital, City at home is. plus, Rooney has played game after game and is tired, so he needs rested, so do a few others.

    Probably something like this:

    Kuszczak
    Brown / Neville - Jonny Evans - Ferdinand - Rafael / Fabio
    Valencia - Carrick - Anderson - Park
    Macheda - Owen

well at last, Anderson scored his first competitive United goal. actually, Anderson and Diego are Brazilians and I do not think there is much to choose between the 2 and both might have the same difficulty adapting in the Prem.

Evra kept Lennon in his pocket and half the battle is won!

Anyone thinks Scholes' 2nd yellow card was harsh?

I think Rooney will play both games, he's vital for us at the moment and he's never a player known to feel fatigue. Macheda's having attitude problems according to the Italy Under 21 coach so he could be left to prove his worth in the reserves or as a sub before he gets a start.

Ando deserves another starting berth against Besiktas or City or both, but I think it'd be best to play the same midfield as we did against Spurs when we play City with Fletcher coming in the centre to fill the role of a deeper Scholes and Valencia/Nani on the wing.

Besiktas will give everything against us and the stadium is a nuthouse that makes Anfield look like a monastery. We treated Fenerbahce like a joke last time. Bad idea!

Foster/Neville, Evans, Vidic, Fabio/Valencia, Gibson, Carrick, Anderson/Owen, Macheda

Rooney has played 3 full games in a week, two of which were hard and one in which he had to play up front on his own. Evra put in a mighty shift against Spurs, those two shouldn't IMO (my newly learn phrase)

I dunno, we sent out a totally rookie team out away to Hull city last season and won, Hull were a team who were fighting tooth and nail as they could have been relegated that day remember. So a slightly better team could do the business against Besiktas I think.

    Foster
    Brown-Ferdinand-Vidic-O'Shea
    Valencia-Carrick-Scholes-Park
    Owen-Rooney

Subs: Kuszczak, Neville, Evans, Nani, Berbatov, Anderson, Giggs

I am leaving Fletcher at home for the derby game.

Hull were on a massive slide towards the end of the season though so they didn't have all the confidence in the world. The rookie's were certainly the better team on the day though.

Good to see some Fletcher acknowledgement Hamburg, I really do think him and Rooney will be our most important players at the weekend.
