Recently I have seen a lot of fans asking for Benitez to put Pacheco, Nemeth, Spearing, Kelly etc in the starting eleven. Dont get me wrong I would love to see Liverpool boasting a title winning side dominated mostly by youth but in my opinion this is not going to happen. We are now in a position where we can really challenge for the title these players are unproven at this level yet, suppose Benitez puts these youngsters in the starting eleven and we lose to a Fulham, or a West Ham, there will be public outcry. At this level with this pressure youngsters have to prove their worth, a pre season is only a pre season. Give the youngsters 10- 20 minutes when we are up against the Stoke's or the Wolves of this world a starting birth is no position at this stage.

you just wonder how many of these youngsters actually have the required ability to step up.rafa has a pretty poor record actually with youngsters he has signed, most of them end up being duds, only a handful look like they could do a job in the premier league, maybe not for a club of liverpools standing though

You don't have to know lots of chords to play songs that matter

I wouldnt say duds, but I agree most of them dont look like making the cut. Nemeth and pacheco, possibly spearing in my view all look like they could have a role to play for the team, but certainly not in a starting position where one of our regulars is ousted on the off chance that they could do something

To be honest, Insua is about as close as any of the reserve players to getting into the first team, and he has looked a very tidy player as well. I mean, with Aurelio being injured, this could be his lucky break.

I know one of the factors that count against Danny Pacheco is his height, or lack of. He seems an incredibly skillful player, and it would be a shame for his height to count against him as such, but I just wonder if he will get a decent chance.

Its surely about time that Pacheco and Nemeth get their chances after being in the reserves for two or three seasons or so. I can sort of understand the need for Nemeth to remain in the reserves, as he didn't have a full season last season, but Pacheco and Spearing definitely.

Spearing especially has impressed in the brief flashes of first-team activity he has got, and in my opinion, he has been one of our better players in what has been a rather low-key pre-season.

From what I gather, we have got a hell of a coaching team up and running - especially in the academy setup with McParland, Rodolfo Borrell (sp), and in particular the additions of Jose Segura and of course Kenny Dalglish.

I mean, its a pretty impressive setup there, and if Liverpool are to produce a gem of a player in a few years time, this team can do it.

I realise I've gone off-topic slightly here, talking about the Academy, but going back to the reserve players, I do believe that some of that lot have the ability to step up given the chance to. Of course this means making a few mistakes, mistakes that could prove costly, but mistakes that could make them into better players. And that is why I think Rafa is hesitant to try them out because he knows that his team cannot afford any mistakes.

my scouse friend thinks the only thing holding pacheco back from getting into the first team is his physique.the height problem which you highlighted and he is very slight.ive only seen him once,in a pre season friendly and he was very impressive,so i think despite the physical issue,he should be given a few run outs, even if only as a sub

I totally agree Pacheco looks a talent, I dont think his height is the problem, its more his build, it would be good if he could build himself up a bit more, then give him a few minutes as a sub and see how he really holds up to Premier league pressures

One only has to look at michael owen and realise that height is not a problem.

Back to topic, I really hope Nemeth gets a chance in the first-team. He's got a real eye for the goal.
