The Reds from Manchester were the defending UCL champions and favorites heading in to the Champions League final on May 27th, after overrunning an unpalatable Arsenal defense in the semifinal at the Emirates. As for Barcelona, an extra-time howler ended Chelsea's hopes of a Moscow rematch. But Barcelona’s performance in the domestic league this season has been the most dominant in the 17 seasons since the European club championship was renamed the Champions League. In this past season, Barca have out-scored their opponents a staggering 104-34. This was Barcelona's best goals scored/conceded ration since the 1996/1997 season, in which they finished second, behind Real Madrid. And in the 12 Champions League matches before the final, they outscored opponents by an average of 1.42 goals per match, compared to one goal per match for Manchester United. But can Barca become the first team in the new era to hold back-to-back titles? Or has Pep Guardiola's "Dream Run" come to an end after just one season? Perhaps winning the UCL and the Domestic Treble implies more success for the future, but you never know. Perhaps the only mistake for Man United was to play in white. The last time Barcelona ran into a strip this colour they cut it to ribbons at the Bernabeu.
