rooney is overrated if you look at the price paid for him... he is at best an average player in a very good team...

you do realise rooney is our 2nd best player behind ronaldo. if the average of our team is very good, doesnt that make rooney very good?

he is just not firing at the momment, but he will have scoring patch after this patch

and 21m for a 18 year old, who is going to stay for life is not too bad

you see its not only the 21 mill. there is his 120K weekly wages... most people only mention the transfer (i have been guilty of that too) but overall if rooney does stay his entire career in United, united will probably spend close to 100 mill behind him... maybe more... can he justify what he has done to deserve that till now? not really, he did have some hot streaks... but it stopped even before it started. Overrated, that's what he is.

does it matter? he win us titles and europe cups, how is he overrated? you only need to watch the 04/05 season: with scholes out, he was almost carrying the team single handedly, especially in the second half of the season to catch jose's unstoppable machines

and nowaday with every pl team spending for fun you will have to spend to surive, history proved the team who spent the most usually win hence thats partly why utd were so sucessful and why chelsea won two titles from no where

look even stoke spent 20m this year, maybe thats why they beat arsenal...

he did not win you any titles. If you should kiss anyone's ass about United past 2 years of success, it should be Ronaldo. And as for spending is everything, not the case, look at the Galacticos, look at Spuds, look at chelsea in 03/04. As for stoke, well if they decide to tackle players off the pitch and injure them, well they pretty much injured our players to win...

and by the way, you said

he win us titles and europe cups, how is he overrated?

if i am not mistaken he has only won 1 CL.

And it's not about spending (look @ Sheva, Berbatov, Keane, Bent, Rooney, Jeffers, Reyes, Wright). Its about getting the right players.

thats a baised comment. rooney have played as much as a part in our winning seasons as ronaldo

and ronaldo is getting paid more anyway, 12.75m tranfer fee and what 130,000 per week so what he win us the league

i am correct the Galacticos were very successful before they sold maka (the most important player) the cl win doesnt lie

and of course spending big bring risk (look no further than leeds), but is a risk utd and other big teams willing take, of course asf makes mistakes as have wenger or anybody else, but one good transfer (ronaldo, rooney...in recent years) can often overwrites all the errors

look no further than sunderland, keane made one good transfer in jones and wasted 30m on crap players, so what they stayed up. and look at reading they did spend and they went down...

btw if wenger paid helb and flamini enough they would have stayed and you lot wouldnt be in this position now.

ronaldo single handedly won united everything. rooney played very little part in it. its a fact. not a biased comment. and ronaldo gets 2000 more than rooney per week and his transfer fee was a lot lower which makes him of greater value than the granny shagger.

Rooney gets 90k per week and Ronaldo gets 132k per week.

Rooney is the kind of player that people only appreciate when he is not playing. Remember the FA Cup last season; he started a game on the bench, United were doing horrible and as soon as he came on, the team just clicked although he did nothing special himself. The team just clicked because he was there. That is what I call quality.

Vian Siu, his finishing is the worst part of his game. Ironic given that he is a striker.

Raed, I take back my comment about RvP being over rated. I realize that I called him that even though I do not watch enough Arsenal games to make a correct decision. I am not saying he is not over rated, I am saying that I am not in a position to make that claim. Sorry about the lengthy discussion.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

rooney 2nd best behind ronaldo?PAH,ronaldo owes his awards to rooneys selflessness.he linked up brilliantly with rooney last season, rooney created so many opportunities for him.rooney is the best player we have.his finishing may not be up to the standards of other top strikers but rooney is absolutely vital to our attacking play

this is like telling me Drogba is overrated, I because I love Chelsea would fight you to the end to prove that isn't true,

BUT in objectivity...and by Raed's analysis the money we paid for him and his wages with respect to his output would make make him overrated.

So Raed will will never get a Utd fan to admit that any of their players are overrated or a waste of money....They will always tell you about some one-off game or some shit to prove the player is good.

To this day they are still trying to argue that Nani and Anderson are better youths than Mikel.

And on their own list of the top 100 players Mikel who has primarily been a backup to Maka and Essien has made the top 100. Nani and Anderson are nowhere to be found.

    It's how they are....that won't change.

you guy are on about utd overpaiding for rooney, doesnt that make zidane and figo and many other big names overrated

zidane only scored 37 goals for real (47m transfer fee, plus shit lots of wages), that more than 1m per goal, and yet you called him a legend...

and figo only scored 36 goals for real (38m transfer fee, also shit amount of wage), but he was also hail as a legend...

no offends there is massive amount of bias towards rooney, you are ignoring his strong part in the game like his passing and work rate, and only point out his weak points. i am just saying he needs to improve his shooting, so he can become a unstoppable football machine who can do anything and everything...

i dont where rhian got his list from i know in the top 100 list 442 published maka and mikel doesnt make the top 100 and neither did anderson and nani. so why bring them up, unless you lack the argument against rooney of course. (who ranked 24 btw, thats pretty high if you ask me)

as for drogba, he used to be shite and now his alright, and no one said he was overrated.

first you questioned zidane & figo's creditablity as legends... then you compared that with rooney... and now ur "implying price tag doesnt matter" and rooney is a success.... i have already stated why i think rooney is overrated... maybe not in this topic... look at most overrated premiership players eh...

no i am not questioning zidane or figo's status as a legend. i trying to say almost all great players come with a greater price tag. hence price tag cant be used to measure the player's greatness. like cruyff was the first 1m man and el deigo was the first 10m man. so really unless that player did extremely badly, price tag only increase the player's creditablity, unlike...sheva, unfortunately.

i respect your opinion but i think rooney will change your mind in his next few games, when his dry patch is over.

unlike figo or zidane who moved to real madrid from their respective clubs after accomplishing something. what has rooney done to justify is price tag at 18 years of age? Nothing. and even now he has done nothing. i will admit he does get his streaks... but he has more cold spells than hot ones... way more.

i have a question you for has zidane and figo together even, achieved as much as ronney has when they were 22?

and how can you say rooney has done nothing? look at rooney's record in pl in the last two years:

    06/07 14 goals 12 assists in 35 games
    07/08 12 goals 13 assists in 27 games

    thats hardly nothing

    and the year before that

05/06 16 goals in 36 games, plus young player in the year award and two player of the month awards...remember this is the year when he carried us to chase chelsea.

plus the young player of the year in 04/05, and the wonder goal against newcastle and boro. come on you cant say he has done and achieved nothing since he joined us 4 years ago...and lets not forget his magic in euro 2004.

he is not doing as well this year but 3 goals and 4 assists in 11 games in not bad is it? concidering some of them were done without ronaldo.

stats cant lie, how can you justify rooney is overrated? and please dont bring up reasons like "because he is...etc"

Raed Rooney is a young English talent in England's top flight playing for the archtype English club - Manchester.

It is known that he would be rated as a superstar....every young English player that bursts on to the scence with one incredible play gets English rating. The press go crazy for him and hype him hype him hype him till people accept that he is "a big player".

I also think Rooney is overrated, quite good but not the God the press make him out to be.
But that is an opinion. One wonders if he had stayed with an average club like Everton if he would have had all that hype.

Two youngsters I have seen in recent times who I think are excellent are Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, Could you imagine the rating they would have received if they had opted for Manchester?

The press in England are deadly, many times they convince ppl of things that if they did take time to ponder properly, they wouldn't buy into the hype.

your first question: as i have said before Rooney is a average player in a world class team. which is why he has won so much.

but figo and zidane werent in world class teams when they were 22, but when they did move to barca and juve respectively they proved their worth. hence both of the players became the most expensive transfers. Because they proved their worth.

As for rooney, he had some good games for Everton & had a good Euro '04 and United jumped the gun & paid 30 mill, 21 up frony & 9 for clauses... He did nothing to prove his price tag @ 18 years of age.

You say price tags don't matter. they do. they do. they reflect on the players worth. of course a lot of other factors come into play as well like age etc... but rooney has done nothing to justify his price tag.

As for his scoring record well accoridng to MUFC.com in 205 appearances rooney has scored 82 goals for united. that puts it at 2.5 game per goal or 366000 pounds for every goal scored against his transfer fee of 30 million.

for the 3 lions, according to the wiki (which again i believe needs to be updated), scored 19 goals in 48 appearances, which again is 2.5 games per goal.

not worth a 30 million pound investment in my mind.

yes but what about his assist rate? as those statistic shown is as high as his scoring rate, which means this kid is almost a walking goal, because he neither create or score a goal in 1.25 game.

i think you will have to be a stand out player to win those award, otherwise your teammate (ronaldo) will take it from you, as those stats shown rooney is a outstanding player over the years. i also think you missed the point i was making, rooney was carrying the team in 05/06, if he was average in the team, why would he be carrying us?

and having a good international tournament is a great achievement. not too many (great) players can have that on their cv, especially a 18 year old.

and how is winning awards and scoring wonder goals nothing?

unfortunately neither mufc nor wiki places any value on assists... tough luck.

As for scoring wonder goals... when was the last time he scored one? 4 years ago? As for his awards... like i said before... he & the rest of united should thank Ronaldo for that... why do you think Ferguson gave ronaldo a blowjob... just to make him stay because he is that important to united.

and you say this year he scored 3 goal & 4 assists in eleven games... well according to the official EPL website there are 37 players (all of whom cost less than 30 mill mind you) are ahead fo him.

and if you take those assist and tevez's assist away last season, ronaldo wouldnt have scored half those goals.

football is a teams game, ronaldo just happens to grab the head line last year, but players like rooney, tevez, carrick, scholes, giggs, evra, brown, rio, vidic, park, etc have done just as much as ronaldo, but they are the unsung hero, since they dont tell the press "i am the greatest!!!" or something along those line, which is what ronaldo did to over-type himself (self promotion)

he is not carrying the team. ronaldo is. & i never said assists werent important. i said wiki & mufc.com didnt value them. i off all people know the value of assists... 2 words: Cesc Fabregas.

& thats my point Ronaldo did SCORE all those goals. it wasnt rooney. it wasnt tevez. sure they did the assists but it was Ronaldo who SCORED. It was ronaldo who did what rooney was supposed to do: Score. It was the reason why United paid 30 mill for him, to: Score.

Ronaldo has more than proven himself. Ronaldo has every right to brag. As much as i hate that guy, I don't deny his quality. For my money, he is a better player than Messi.
