Tonight Ronaldo spoke to the portuguese media and confirmed he would be staying at United for one more season at least. But after all the rumours and uncertainty he caused,do United fans really want him at OT anymore?

Not by me. He has betrayed the club by saying that he wats to go to Madrid. Manchester United not good enough for him? Well it is for thousands of other players, so if he does not want to stay, he should just fuck off before he hurts the team. There would be plenty of replacements.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

Well, he got well and truly booed after his bit of gamesmanship when Wazza stepped on Carvalho's goolies during the Portugal match, and it just made him more determined to excel. I expect more of the same when the Stretford End lets him have it this season. If he bangs in another 35 goals or more, it can only help to encourage the club to ask for a nice round sum of 100M quid this time next year. One thing's for sure, the bloom is off the rose and nobody will be offering him their total adoration in the dressing room or in the crowd. This way, there's lots of time for the club to shop for Ronnie's replacement and a new assistant for the Gaffer.

Hey Ahmed! Interesting comparison between Pique and Ronaldo. Of course, United nicked Pique out from under Barca's nose and the lad made it clear that, had there been much chance for him to establish himself on the team, he would have stayed. As things stood/stand, both Vidic and Ferdinand are pretty young and durable, Wes Brown was ahead of him as a replacement and Jonny Evans was snapping at his heels. So, who could blame the lad? Cristiano Ronaldo does not have a contract running out. He did not get a chance to return to his old club, Sporting, and that club is, obviously, not a powerhouse like Barca or United. This whole story about Ronnie's mum and her precious boy always loving Real Madrid is a fairly new one in the telling. I believe he's telling P.R.-positive porky pies. First and foremost, I have dealt with many many Portuguese in their homeland, in Canada and in the U.S. There truly is not a lot of love lost between the Portuguese and the Spaniards. Carlos Queiroz's rant against Real sounded strange, especially considering he was their manager for a season, but the historical issues he alluded to are no storm in a teacup if you're a patriotic Portuguese. Now, when any of us talk in broad generalities about the English hating Germans, Argentines hating the English, Pakistanis hating Indians, everybody hating the English--whatever!--such concepts are odious, but, I must say, my Portagee friends are pretty gobsmacked to hear Ronnie really loves and supports Real, as Pique loves Barca and Gaz Neville loves Manny U. Luis Figo, a player I really admire, unlike Ronaldo, has spoken about being a cynic, a mercenary piece of meat, one who did not truly enjoy his years as a Galactico and, in retrospect, would have made some different choices. The bottom line is that, although I disagree with you, I am fascinated by Cristiano's need to justify himself and create a sort of back story with much subtext. In his own sort of passive/aggressive way, the kid still wants to be loved by the fickle fickle mob. And as for the fan... Well, Ahmed, when you spend a huge chunk of your paycheck on a satellite dish or pay a lot for four or five games because you can't afford a season ticket, you have the right to run your mouth, change your mind, fall in and out of love with players, etc. Players like Ronnie, Wazza, Messi and Kaka, perhaps without even realizing it, are becoming like cartoon characters and Hollywood stars, fed to the public in gossip columns and rumour mills, they had better get used to it and proceed accordingly.

Whatever happens, I think maybe we all agree that if there's one guy who can handle the boos, media, pressure and blame is Ronaldo, he did it after the World Cup, and as we saw, time heals everything.
