What's with Rafa constantly trying to rewrite history? And not by winning titles, mind you, just by whinging on and on ad nauseum.
In his latest rant, he says:
- No one has ever stood up to Ferguson or said anything against him
- That United are scared of Liverpool
- That Ferguson knows that Liverpool are the better side
Fact #1: Ferguson has had his share of managers go up against him, from Keegan to Wenger to Mourinho. In two cases they've won against him in the war of words and in one case, specifically Mourinho, Fergie didn't push matters until Mourinho's third season, when United finally won their first title after 3 years.
Fact #2: United's success in the last 2 decades has seen plenty of managers, players and journo hacks say and write negative stuff about United and Ferguson.
Fact #3: United are more scared of Arsenal and Barcelona than they are of Liverpool. If anything, United are supremely pissed at Liverpool. More than the chance of winning a third title, Fergie will use the shame and anger from the Old Trafford defeat to motivate his players in the league.
Fact #4: United knows that Barcelona are the better side, just as they were last season. Then again, Chelsea have been the better side on paper for the last 3 seasons. We've stayed of them in all 3 seasons. Being close doesn't count, only holding your nerve when you're ahead counts, and so far, Liverpool have done nothing worth being scared of.
It seems as if Rafa is trying to turn the Premier League against United and Ferguson by constantly feeding into the false notion that a) United have been unchallenged and b) Ferguson has manipulated the league at will.
Fact #5: Mike Riley was under so much pressure in the FA Cup semi that refused to give two penalties, both that would have been given on another day, by another ref, even in a final. Was Riley manipulated by the press and brought under pressure? Yes. Who was responsible for it?
Managers do whatever it takes to get their teams to win. Wenger has refused to see the truth for years. Mourinho has his way of attracting all the attention and taking the spotlight off his players. Ferguson plays mind games.
What does Benitez do? Apparently, he rewrites history.
None of this matters if you win fuckall in the end.
