players arsene wenger should look to sign this summer (09)

   It is well reported that arsene wenger needs to make signings this summer in order to challene for trophies next season. Arsenal's current weaknesses are well known eg. lack of experience and a midfeild hardman.
   However I am sure all arsenal fans are encouraged by the signing of thomas vermaelen. and perhaps even more so by the fact that arsene wenger has spent good money on a player so early on in the summer. as an arsenal fan i hope this is a trend that continues. reports of felipe melo being a target have got me excited. a player who is not scared of a challenge, as you can tell by his disaplinary record. he is also a threat from se peices as he showed against usa in the confederations cup.
   i also like the look of argentina u19's player buonanotte who looked oustanding in the toulan tournament.
   i had my eye on mario gomez but hehas sinced moved to fc bayern.

   if you were arsene wenger who else would u look to sign this summer?

   If he can manage it, Touloulan. More European experience than Melo and has a better physical presence. Arsenal's need for a midfield hard man has been well documented and while it must be encouraging for Arsenal fans that Arsene's been linked with a defensive midfielder in Melo, Melo looks more to be a Denilson rather than a Gilberto in that he's lacking in the hard tackling, big presence style defending. If Touloulan turns out to be too expensive, Hitzelsperger is a proven Prem midfielder who has a good range of passing and a large on-field presence. His experience in the Premiership may prove invaluable in the closing stretch of the Prem and may be a good buy as back up even if they do sign another defensive midfielder.

   Another area he should look to address is Centre Back. Vermaelen while encouraging is still in the same mould as Gallas and Toure. What Arsenal need is someone tall and built a la Sol Campbell. The problem with the Arsenal defence is that they keep getting pushed around by powerful forwards, Kevin Davies, Drogba and the likes have always looked a threat to a weak defensive core. In fact if not for the often unsung heroics of Sagna and Clichy in tracking back and closing down crosses, I'd say that their aerial frailties would be further exposed. Hangeland would have been a good shout, but he looks set to stay at Fulham, Raul Albiol would be great as he not only would be able to stand up to the battering ram forward style of proper route one football, but would also be able to deputise at Defensive midfield, not to mention that with Valencia's money woes, Albiol might not be too hard to prise from the Mestella.

   Buy: Lucio, Mathew Upson, felipe melo, David Villa, Kameni.
   sell: Senderos, rosicky, diaby, adebayor, Bendtner on loan, silvestre, denilson on loan bischoff.

   I would try and sign Alou Diarra, big strong holding midfielder that will challenge attackers. Maybe even Lassana Diarra if he becomes unfavored at Madrid with the superstar infusion. As formulaic as it sounds as Arsene always buys young talent, I would try and sign Steven Defour or maybe even Mesut Ozil,I believe they would fit nicely for Arsenal.

   Kameni has already signed a new contract B Boii they shud get rid of Bentner & Adebayor & Sign Sturridge & Owen. Although it seems Sturridge has joined Chelsea. M. Diarra & Try & get Richards for Toure + cash

   arsenal have enough offensive minded midfielders, Nasri, fabregas, walcott, arshavin, theirs no room for him.

   Two of those are wingers and walcott can definitely play in attack.
