I used to think that this tag went to either Gareth Barry and Mikel Arteta, but now that they are flavours of the month as such, they might even be a little overrated! So which players do you believe are the most underrated? For my money, Arbeloa is one (he never gets credit in the mean Liverpool defence), other candidates including Ryan Nelsen, Julio Arca, and Gael Clichy (better than Cole by a mile, in my view).

i always thought that gamst should be playing for liverpool or arsenal, the guy is amazing and he seems really underrated. then of course there is shay given...

I pretty much agree about gamst, though he does lack a bit of pace.
Mr Given...well it just so happens that we are in a league full of excellent goalkeepers (Brad Friedel is another superb player who does not get the plaudits he deserves on a regular basis). I tell you what though, if Given hadn't been so loyal to Newcastle (Manchester United have certainly tried to sign him before), then he could have won awards.

I agree about Clichy & Arteta. How about Robert Green from West Ham? He's put in some great performances over the past year & i always feel that he can move on to bigger things.

I don't think Gamst is underrated anymore--he made just about everyone's team of the season at left mid last year. Same with Clichy. No one thinks Cole is better than him anymore. The secret's out. I suppose Arteta's not really underrated anymore, but how a player of that quality doesn't even get called up to the Spanish squad is beyond me. He'd be perfect on the wing for Liverpool, complimenting our central midfielders. Too bad we'll never have him. I agree completely on Arbeloa. He's fantastic. Robbie Keane is a player that people know about but I still think is underrated with Berba getting all the headlines. Cristopher Samba deserves a shout. And honestly, Gilberto Silva and Mathieu Flamini do too. They do everything for Arsenal. I would love to have them on my team. Brad Friedel too.

In complete agreement about Gilberto & Flamini.

I agree especially about Flamini. His work very often goes unnoticed but he is a tidy and hardworking player.

how about kolo toure.he's definetely one of the best centre backs in the prem yet i hardly ever hear him get the praise he deserves

For me its either Stephen Hunt of Reading or Leon Osman of Everton. Yobo goes unnoticed quite a bit too.

Gilberto. Arsenal fans took notice, a number thinking him better than Cesc last season. You almost don't notice him in games but he does his job well and I easily consider him one of the world's best defensive midfielders.

I strongly agree that Gael Clichy is one of the most underrated players in the Premiership. Defenders often get the hard end of being noticed because everyone loves to watch attacking football. However, Clichy shows great dedication to his defensive role while at the same time, continues to overlap on the leftside to get in crosses.

I do not thik I agree with Robert Green. It is true that he had some fnatstic games recently, but he also made some serious blunders. And I agree that the golakeepers in this league are absolutely fantastic.
Another name came to mind as an underrated player: Barry. I know he is now finally getting some of the praise he deserves but I have been amazed by the left foot for almost a year.

Brad Friedel has silently been a force for Blackburn for the past seven years. He's been excellent and deserves more credit. I agree about Gilberto Silva as well, he does everything right. Arbeloa has been excellent for Liverpool as well, enough to allow Riise to play in the midfield (where he belongs. He was good as a left back for a long time for Liverpool, but he is more comfortable in the midfield).

If we are on goalies I'd say David James. He may have earned his 'Calamity' nickname in the past, but last year he was superb for Portsmouth.
