Some people hate him, some people love him. I am more for the latter and think there isnt a great selection of potential captains for England so why not him? I don't think Rio is captain material and I think Gerrard plays better when he just the responsibility of running the midfield rather than being captain too...... what do you all think?

I'm not happy with it but to me Capello is a much smarter manager than Macca or Eriksson, so if he sees fit to make Terry captain then so be it. Good luck to Terry, good luck to England, etc etc.

It's fun to see the media get it wrong though. And I shudder to think how Chelsea fans would have reacted if Terry hadn't been made captain.

Rio Ferdinand is captain material all right - it's just that within the England setup Terry has greater authority mainly because he's captain for half of the starting 11 (Coles, Lamps, SWP). Taking him out of the equation, keeping in mind how he reacted when the 'rotation policy' was first announced, would potentially destablise the squad.

Or maybe Fab thinks Terry's a better captain. Oh well :(

as a Chelsea fan i don't think i would have reacted badly, if Rio had got it then Rio would have got it fair enough. I just don't think Rio is captain material - Terry and Rio both have nasty dislikable sides but Ferdinands seems more irrational to me. Like in that Chelsea game at the end of the season.

also he's not as convincing/impressionable a character in my opinion. You rarely see him giving someone an earful if they arent trying hard enough - but hey this is just how I see it, I am sure United fans see things I dont notice about Rio...

I think Rio is a brilliant captain whenever he gets the armband at United and the team is better with him as a captain (not to take anything away from Giggs or Neville).

That being said, Terry never had a real shot at being England's captain, so it will be interesting to see what he will make of it now that he has it for the long haul. Good luck England. With any of it, you will be able to make a semifinal one of these decades...

Rio is a brilliant captin,? yea right. Did anyone see him swearing away at giggs during the newcastle game, Giggs was confused and there fore subbed, when he was subbed Rio the great leader was smiling, a person who screws wiith the captain so he can gain the armband is a brilliant captain? People like Giggs, Terry, Lampard, Owen, Zidane are true leaders. I am not saying Rio sucks, I just think he is no leader. He doesnt play with heart like giggs or Terry and he is not there when Gallas brings the late goals for his team.

Usually I'd defend Rio but the reaction from the Chelsea contingent here is just what I expected - pick on things you know little about and take them completely out of context. Good stuff :)

Why would anyone want a captain who whines if he's not appointed as such. And make no mistake, he was whining about it. He doesn't deserve it more than anyone else. A captain, is just the team's leader, in place of the manager, out on the pitch. That's it. Terry gives a man's effort each time out, no doubt. But, he is constantly bitching to the refs and he has elevated himself, his performance, and his ability too much to be England captain.

I think 'constantly' bitching to the ref is a mild exaggeration there - sure he's no saint in that department but I expect a change there this season. People are very selective when it comes to who they criticise for bitching to refs tho - Wayne Rooney for example. I am sure I am opening up a can of worms here by saying that tho...

    hah!

    Very smart and down-to-earth kid.

We should pick the guy with the best wag. Marcus Bent.

Oh, is being in the team a requirement? Damn, that means it's a face-off between Rooney, Crouch and Gerrard. Take your pick :)

you decide what you reality is about, young grasshopper...

curran is real, clancy is a model, curran is milf material, clancy is the shop clerk girl you'd do over the lunch table every day and never get tired of it...

sorry, guys, there's no contest. I'll take both. Or you can pick yours and I'll go with Gemma...
