Well having just watch England beat Croatia 4-1 I thought I would start up a post on thoughts about the game, media predictions for tomorrow and next steps.

I usually bang on about Englands lack of creativity and not being as good as we think we are (which i still think) but I was chuffed to see the score line and throughout the game they looked like the better team tongiht - it has been a long time since I have felt satisfaction in watching England play, I usually moan about how I am wasting my life watching them!
Rooney was instrumental in the majority of goals, Lampard's passing was not wayward and added to the team (shame that goal was disallowed), I still dont see the point in Gareth Barry, he did alright tho and I thought Wes and Cole pushed up well. Of course Walcott has a ruddy dream of a game. The goals sometimes appeared a little too easy. Obviously lets not get carried away, this is only Croatia but it is nice to see them play like an international team and concentrate on possession. I hope the papers dont go mad tomorrow, a little perspective is needed. As for next steps, Gerrard will come back from injury and we'll have a certain midfield issue all over again!

And that is coming from a Scot... who, as usual, speaks truths. The media will go mad, Capello will be the saviour of English football, England will be favourites for the World Cup, Walcott will be the best thing since Bobby Charlton, Croatia will become world class opponents and England will lose to Portugal in the quarter-finals on penalties in South Africa - if they are lucky enough to get that far - after a disastrous World Cup campaign. Yep... seen it all before.

Despite all the gloom that is to follow, I must add:

-> Good (not brilliant, fantastic or whichever other superlative) performace for England
-> They are on the right track for progess and success in international football (passed the ball, created chances, played their strengths)
-> Rooney reminded me of um... Rooney two years ago (good news for Man Utd and England)
-> Fabulous decision by Capello to play Walcott; really worked out, he is starting to show some tactical awareness
-> England played as a team, not as XI superstars wearing same-couloured shirts

    Despite this:

-> England were sometimes wasteful in possesion
-> James is becoming increasingly unreliable, it seems
-> Terry did not have the best of games - quite the opposite
    -> Why is Barry there?
-> When Hargreaves will be back, so will Gerrard. Who do you think will get the nod? Do not answer... rethoric question.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

I never gave up hope that the new crop of young stars would come good eventually and I have a positive feeling about this world cup campaign. Walcott, Jenas and Joe Cole are all great tenacious characters and not the sort to let things go to their head. I still think Sean Wright-Philips has the potential to make a big impact. Like these three he also has been overlooked/underestimated for a while but his day will come...

Where does our strength lie? In my opinion in the number of players we have coming through with the skill and confidence to take players on. As a defender I consider such a team would be very difficult to shut down.

    He plays to the left...
    He plays to the right...
    That boy Walcott...
    He make Croatia look shame...

    He plays to the front...
    He plays to the mid...
    That boy Rooney...
    He make Croatia look sad...

bitter?no.biased?yes.as all us irish are against england....lot of bad history between us so i will NEVER go on englands side.1 win isnt enough to become the greatest side in the world.if they do it for the whole qualifying campaign and the tournament itself, then i will give credit

Is Theo the youngest Englishman to score a hat-trick? I think so...

I hope you do but Scotland looked likely to get to the Euros and ruined it against Georgia, anything can happen, its early days!

England's toughest game was Croatia away. 3 points from here and all they need to do now is play at Macca's level for the rest of the qualifiers and get through.
