Is Barry worth 17m + Finnan for Liverpool?

Villa have sent a letter to Liverpool outlining their final demands for Barry - 17m to be paid in 12 months (half now, half next year) and Liverpool right-back Steve Finnan.

I know Barry is good but contrary to what the press is saying he's behind Hargreaves and Lampard in the pecking order for England (which makes him 4th choice and not 2nd choice). I guess the 14m (going to 18m) for Carrick deal is what's driving O'Neill's valuation, and I think in that context it's a fair price.

But to Liverpool - a club blessed with central midfielders (Alonso recently said that he had no problems with staying), why bring in a 17m valued central midfielder who'll do half the job on the left wing that a 11m winger from the continent could have done? Looks to me like Rafa is making the same mistake that he made with pushing Gerrard to the right wing a couple of years ago.

Who cares if those thick scouse gits are stupid to pay that let them!!!

Also lets put it this way:

Inter want Lampard for 8million mmmmmmmmmmmmm (Premier league winner, FA cup winner, League cup winner, Champions league finalist)

Liverpool want Barry for 17million (i'm struggling to think of anything he's won lol, oh yeah FA cup finalist 2000 that's it)

So on that no he isn't worth it.

    BUT...............

I'm a Villa fan so let them pay that much i'm o'neil will put it to good use

Thank you for listening to my rant lol

Some English players are just players bought to show off that their English with a big price tag, some live up to it (Carrick, Hargreaves), some dont (Bent).

Rafa's under a lot of pressure to play an English contingent beyond Stevie G and Jamie. They want a mate in the dressing room. The Yank owners are sensitive to fan criticism over the team carrying so many foreign players. Keeping Xabi or buying a kid with more moxy and skill for approximately the same amount of dosh, like Veloso, would make much more sense. Barry is average at best. Why not another Home Bwoy like Joey Barton instead? At least he plays with a sense of urgency and emotion.

you guys are right.. barry isn't worth 17 mill. real madrid wouldn't even spend that much money. if liverpool really want a good english player who doesnt belong to a big club, they should sign aaron lennon from tottenham. he has excellent speed and would fit nicely on the wing.

Is Spurs a big club right now?Yes and we can say is,they has been one of the candidates for the Big Four this season, with their signings like Modric and Dos Santos,we need to focus on them too...

mufan's utter lack of knowledge of English makes his joke all the funnier. Haha!!

Isn't Aaron Lennon a bit too Mini-Me to slot into Gareth's shoes? Ha! Really, they're both second-class players and I think Rafa simply wants a happy Stevie G. If it was about value for money the Scousers would get players like Scott Brown and Aidan McGeady, potentially far superior to Bentley and Barry. I'd like to hear Fernando Torres mimicing Aidan in the dressing room like he does Carragher.

k maybe tottenham is becoming a big club.. but they came in the bottom half of the league last year. i don't know if we can consider them in the top four this season.

We'll see where Tottenham end up. For me, they've done well so far in transfers, but as Tottenham fans all know, its not always about what the squad looks like on paper. Especially if Keane and/or Berbatov go...

Meanwhile, I still wanna see a Barton linked with 'Pool rumor (and I don't mean Blackpool)

Further, as I've seen it, it doesn't seem to be about how much Barry is going to sell for, because he clearly is a good, but not great, player, I think its more about how much is Barry worth to Liverpool in making Gerrard happy, giving the team a more English look for the fans, etc. Because like it or not, Gareth Barry does have a fan base.

But personally, no, he's not worth 17 min plus STEVE BLOODY FINNAN.

I'm sure that Barry can be the leader only in clubs of the same class as Villa. But even due to his successful playing during the last season and participation in qualifying games for EURO, he's not worth such a sum..may be 9 mln + Finnan :?

Think about what you are saying, and say, what you are thinking about.
