United lined up Henry deal - Sunday Mirror

Thierry Henry was on the brink of a £10million move to Manchester United before Pep Guardiola replaced Frank Rijkaard as Barcelona coach. Would he have really gone to Old Trafford?

I saw this on skysports.com.What do you guys think?I think Henry would be a great addition to our squad

its clearly tabloid bullshit.....no way he would move to united even in his current situation.....plus do you honestly think ferguson would go for a 30 year old striker when he has 2 brilliant younger ones?

Well... yea since with his experience he can provide stability and be a lethal weapon off the bench.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

if thats the case u should get rid of scholes and giggs too  I would personally like henry to add his experience and killer instinct to the united squad.

Fuck off, there's stuff about Thierry going to Spurs and Chelsea - pretty much Arsenal's biggest rivals and what the man did for us, how we said Arsenal was in his blood and he'd be a Gooner for life; he won't move to any English club but Arsenal, let alone United, Spurs and Chelski.

Also, I remember I posted an article like this in January lol, and you all said 'it was a load of bollocks' and now look, it is popping up every where.

"Arsenal FC will always be in my blood, As they say I'll always be a gooner"

He's got every right to be mad, if your legend betrayed you, you'd be mad too. I mean if Giggs moved to Liverpool, I think I would go to Tampa and stick a whole palm tree up Glazer's ass.

If Henry gonna back to England,he can ONLY playing for 1 team only, that is his former team,Arsenal...I think he's gonna be NOT suitable with other clubs in England...

mufan's utter lack of knowledge of English makes his joke all the funnier. Haha!!

You sound like a Man Utd fan or else just someone who doesn't know what there talking about. Your Avatar?? your prob a celtic fan aswell as a united fan. Oh yeah but thats right if your a celtic or a rangers fan your allowed to support 2 teams, isnt that right???? I have never understood that, thats like me saying im an arsenal fan but im a PSG fan to. Pick a team and stick to it for fuck sake. Does my head in all these rangers and celtic fans saying they support them but support man u, l'pool or chelski ect aswell.

As for the Henry Quote, if henry was to go to any1 but arsenal in england then that would make him a lier. Im an arsenal fan and for some reason my gut feeling tell's me there is some truth in that transfer rumour, hope im wrong. But for now i'll trust what Henry previously said about being a gooner for life and lets hope its not another paul ince case. Ok you could use Mickey Thomas as an example or pennant but for you clueless liverpool fans that refer to us arsenal as "arsenal scum". As far as i know there has never really been bad blood btween arsenal and liverpool. Ive always had alot of respect for liverpool and i think the two clubs have alwaz had that respect for eachother too. When l'pool got to the champs league final there were arsenal fans txting into skysportsnews wishing them luck and routing for them i would nearly guaruantee the majority of arsenal fans wanted to see l'pool win that night.

O aye and about these two GREAT young strikers united have? who? ? ? ? tevez yeah, he's a great wee player but i doubt he will get you 20-30 goals every season, same goes for rooney, they are brilliant players but they are'nt prolific strikers, and Ronaldo, well his record speaks for itself but he's not a striker. Some might dissagree with that but stick him upfront on his own for a few games and then you'll know he's not a striker. Oh it must be saha your talking about then!! great finisher but hardly consistent never mind prolific. 13,14 or 15 goals is a more than good return for a player like ronaldo (at his position)he's just on fire at the min. but if ronaldo only gets half the goals he got this season next season then thats when you'll realise how much united need a goal scoring striker like torres or santa cruz or an eto. Arsenal have more striking options than united do believe it or not. Ronaldo wont get 40+ goals again next season and if he does then im wrong you don't need a prolific striker to win the league and champs league but i find that very doubtful. If Henry did move to United he would be hated by every arsenal fan, he wouldnt be able walk through north london, there'd be 60'000 banners at the emirates spelling judas, arsenal fans tend to be patient, we arnt the hateful type. but that Henry rumour would just be one step to far, we can take the flamini's and hlebs leaving, "you don't wanna play for our club then get the fuck out and quick before you spoil the good buzz". Flamini can easily be replaced by the likes of diaby, gilberto and Nasri (maybe). Hleb was bought as a goal scoring midfielder and he hasn't really done that just like we know Rosicky will do when he's fit and ready, sure he only played a few months and he was like our 3rd top scorer!!speaks volume's. Hleb is a very technically gifted player, but c'mon now thats the last thing arsenal need, we are overloaded with them. we dont NEED hleb and the guy would even tell you that himself. We paid 11m for him and theres still 2yrs left on his contract so he should be worth AT LEAST 15m, i say take the money and run, we could get Edu back for a small fraction of that.

It's all good, the future's bright, the future's red and white!! hehe

Personally I think Henry is EXACTLY the sort of player Fergie is looking for. Someone who is fast and can play the lone striker with Rooney or Tevez behind. He would offer an alternative style to a Rooney-Tevez partnership. Fergie hasn't been able to change the way we attack with Saha always injured.

Chloe, I think the reference to the young strikers are Welbeck (17) and Campbell (20). Everyone says Welbeck is better than Campbell but a bit young. Buying a 30 year old would be a good idea for a couple of years while Welbeck comes through. I think Henry wouldn't mind playing for the current European Champions. He might get a chance of a medal next year.

You forgot about Manucho too Ian.His preformance of the AFCN speaks volumes about his ability. What Chloe said is pretty acurate. And well,Chloe, please remember,Wenger and Henry were probably mutually agreed on the transfer. The thing is,after the departure of the likes of Sol Campell,Cole,Viera, and the phasing out of Gilberto and Lehman,Henry was suddenly the only one left of the previous generation. And being the superstar that he is,the younger gen players were probably uncomfortable playing with him,not having matured with him as the likes of Viera,Sol,Cole etc did.I think wenger wanted henry to go too.
And yeah, rooney and tevez are not prolific scorers. The reason ronaldo has been so prolific and his assist count has gone down is that often, rooney and tevez act as the playmaker and play ronaldo in.Its a very flexible formation that one. But yeah,we definitely do need another striker upfront.Henry would be a terrific buy.He wont have that first season problem as well.
And btw, earlier i did say Henry would be a great buy for ManU and the move might not be as unlikely as it seems, but yeah, all of you just jeered at me then.Well,I feel justified saying,I TOLD YOU SO!

Hey ian, awk yeah i know what you mean but the way it was said! i see what u mean i've heard of the young guy campbell before but honestly i don't think thats who the celtic/united fan meant, i doubt he's even heard of them before. He refers to united having two brilliant strikers already. That would be like me saying that about barize(20 i think(PLAYMAKER/STRIKER, BIT LIKE BERGKAMP STYLE) ) or nordveit(17 or 18(CD)) (both spelt terribly wrong i know). Your guy campbell seems like he could actually be exactly what united need in a year or two. But you can't predict the future, eagles got great reviews, pennant was supposed to be an amazing prospect(he's a good wee player too but he isnt what the media was making him out to be at 15/16), simpson for arsenal too he got rave reviews playing in league 1 i think it was this season. You just dont know how things will turn out for these players were talking about. Baritze or welbeck could be the next superstars or it could all just go down hill. True, Henry is exactly what united need and not much else, they'd clean up AGAIN but you have to see it from an arsenal fans point of view. Henry is one of if not the greatest legend in arsenal's history, if he was to go to united then his time at arsenal would have meant nothing. United and arsenal have been big rivals for the past 10 years it's been united and arsenal fighting it out for best english team until chelski bought there way in. People talking here don't seem to get it, that would of been like arsenal trying to get Cantona after he finished at united. I wouldnt mind so much if he went to liverpool as he's expressed an admiration for the club and their fans, spurs!!lol ok whatever! But you see what im trying to say, Henry will know how much that would piss arsenal fans off. I thought henry meant what he said, but maybe its another case of kissing the badge then pissing on it when u think know1s looking. Yeah i know i guess he (wenger) prob did sell Henry and veira for the reason u say but it will still hurt every arsenal fan to see henry in an man u shirt. Oh and fatehsmann i actually don't doubt what your saying. As i said theres just a little feeling in my gut telling me he could go to united. I wouldn't put money on betting against that. again kiss/piss on the badge, same bloody thing these days. I hope it isnt the last we see of gilberto but, i think we need him and from what i've heard he seem's to be one of the big characters in the team. I dont think any of the youngsters would feel threatened by him or anything like the henry situation, Gilberto has been a consistent performer for arsenal and if theres one thing arsenal need nxt season it is consistant performers like hargreaves, vidic, tevez, gilberto, clichy, A cole(the rat) to name a few.

Yea, Campbell is spectacular. They way he took Hull up was inspiring. Ferguson could give him some play time next season because of that, unless he stays at Hull...

SORRY!!! just getting abit over emotional about it, what can i say im easily wound up. An essay? Thats not an essay, i'll leave that for another time. Your right its not even worth reading really, just stating the obvious. My friends either don't like ftball or support either united liverpool rangers or celtic, know1 wants 2 hear me go on about arsenal, they just tell me to shut up. Wouldnt read into it to much, its just a mixture of built up frustration and im not used to forums n all that. Soz Duffman, i should'nt have said that, i take it back, sorry. Im just jelous cause our team won nothing again.

Good to have your contributions. And in admitting to frustration at your team (the Arsenal) having not won anything (again), you've shown a darn sight more maturity than one or two other Arsenal supporters who use this forum.

Not gonna happen, I see Henry staying at Barca for another season and possibly making a return farewell tour with Arsenal.

I can't rule out him going to another team but he will not be playing for Spurs or United.

You know,if henry does come to United,Arsenal fans should not storm the streets and give him death threats like barca fans did to Figo when he moved to Real. Heres why
1)Henry did a helluva lot for Arsenal. He did a million times more than 'enough'.They should remember that he peaked there and gave back to the club that trusted him, when they bought a seemingly out of sorts winger from juventus
2)Henry's departure was a mutual decision. And it was actually better for the team that it happened. The generation of players he had matured with and who he knew(Viera,Pires,Bergkamp,Campell,Cole etc.)had all gone, with the exception of a few.The new arsenal squad was largely made of youngsters. As they said, because there wasnt that emotional closeness with Henry, and with Henry being the superstars, there was always this thing of one man army about arsenal over the last few seasons he was there. The younger players felt pressurized to pass everything to him,as a result they didnt blossom and Henry was overburdened. So it was best for both parties that he got to go.If henry had left against the club's wishes, the price would have been far more than the 16 million(to put in perspective, bent was 18 million. And how much better is Henry?)3)His promise that I'll be a gunner all my life was probably one that he thought he would keep at that time. Its not like he could see the situation transpiring

And as enough people have said before, hes a fantastic striker and just the one we need at United. And henry wants a move back to england because of his daughter and his compatability with the EPL.Arsenal wont buy him.Only a handful can afford him.

    Arsenal fans,dont be ungrateful

    Fatehsmann:

"Ingratitude". Now that there's a theme. As old bill shakespeare once said (or might have said): "Ingratitude thou marble hearted fiend more horrid when thou showest in a football supporter than the dreaded sea-monster"!

When is the last time supporters showed gratitude to a returning player....? How about Carlos Tevez at West Ham last season, and again at Old Trafford. West Ham supporters, almost to a man, applauded his humdinger of a goal at Old Trafford. So what does it take for supporters to show gratitude? Does Henry have the "gratitude" factor?
