With half of the current Tottenham squad likely to be moving on this coming transfer window, Spurs are currently setting up eligble replacements for those in line to depart Juande Ramos's fast improving side. I cannot help to notice that there is more emphasis on replacing our attcking front-line rather than the most important position in my eyes which is our goalkeeper.
With Paul Robinson almost definitely moving on, with Middlesborough waiting in the wings, it should be a priority for Juande Ramos and the backroom staff to be seeking a quick replacement with plenty of time to spare. Then we should be more concerned about the out field areas which we do seem to focus more on.
Last season we missed out on Livorno stopper Amelia, after the two clubs left it late in agreeing a fee amongst other reasons, probably Damien Commoli's fault. I would not like to see another problem like this occur nearer the end of the summer window. The goalkeeping position is where the rest of the play is started, thus it is necessary that we choose wisely and correctly regarding a replacement to Paul Robinson.
It is rumoured that Portugese International, Ricardo is in line for the goalkeeping post and with proven ability at both club and national level, is somebody that I would like to see ply his trade at Tottenham next season. Another contender is France #1 Gregory Coupet, who after a positive performance for France at the Euro 2008 tournament, would also be a successful candidate for the important role.
With so many attacking options at Tottenham next season including the likes of Luka Modric, Dos Santos and Jenas, I feel that a leader is needed within the goalkeeping ranks to maintain a strong defence at set pieces, which Spurs seem to stumble upon, particularly last season.
Who would you like to see fill this void at Tottenham or Who has the quality to push forward our progression in Europe and the Premiership?
