Having just finished watching the Spain v Russia match, I have finally gotten what I wanted in this tournament all along. What I will say will most likely cause some dust-ups, but Watching Russia and Turkey, I have to say, I was awfully tired of "Cinderella" stories at the Euros. Netherlands beat themselves, the Turks were lucky over and over again, and talk about all these Russians being amazing players abounded. But, the semifinals for me were brilliant for a few reasons:

    1) The better quality teams (Span and Germany) both won, showing Russia and Turkey that they couldn't win with so-so performances and/or luck

    2) Arshavin was no where against a team with star defenders (Puyol and Sergio Ramos stopped him time and time again) and made people (at least me :D ) realize that he's not some superstar, but a really good player who can be shut down just like anyone else.

    3) A team like Turkey who kept coming up with Miracles time and time again is not going to win a Euro Cup. For me, football is about overall quality, great players with tremendous performances to make a final. I don't think Turkey had that at all, and I'm happy Germany finally ended their hope.

    4) The European Championship will have a final with two worthwhile teams that aren't flukes, have superstars, and it will be a mouthwatering match

I'm sure most of you will criticize or whatever, but I want to hear your thoughts

What? I didn't foul him, I just nudged him a bit

Well Germany wasn't really convincing & Turkey was basically handicapped. But yes it will be a mouth-watering final given that the former team mentioned here shows up. :)

I have to agree with you, it is great that tw good teams made the final, but you cannot complain that that is not usually the case.

    2006: France v Italy
    2004: Portugal v Greece
    2002: Germany v Brazil
    2000: Italy v France
    1998: Brazil v France
    1996: Czech Republic (?) v Germany
    1994: Italy v Brazil
    1992: Germany v Denmark
    1990: Argentina v W Germany

So in the past 18 years there have been three surprises, and that only if you think that the Czechs got lucky.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

True Andrei, it does happen often, I just would have been upset had it been a Russia v. Turkey final because neither side to me was really unbelievably good. For me, most of the time, the top-tier nations usually lose only because they make stupid mistakes and lose to themselves. Sure, Russia played pretty good, but Turkey to me was a huge fluke. Just glad the truly well-organized, starpower clubs got to the final.
