So we've just ended our penalty jinx, but some other things to note about our road to the final.

    - We almost lost after blowing a 3-0 lead.
    - We have 3 players unable to play in the final, Abonglahor and Joe Hart have accumulated 2 yellow cards over the tounament and Frazier Campbell in a moment of madness got himself sent off against Sweden.
    - Mancienne seems to put in some dodgy displays, he seems to have lapses in concentration when playing high up the pitch, his defensive positioning is a little off and he doesn't have the speed to compensate.
    - Gibbs seems to have shrugged off his blunder from last season.
    - Milner has now missed 2 penalties in this tournament. His contributions on the wings with his running and his crossing have been superb, but maybe he shouldn't be our go to penalty taker.
    - Muamba had a great opening to the tournament, but I think with the constant speculation of Rodwell usurping him after a amazing display against Finland seems to have his confidence a little rocked. Maybe not quite mentally ready for the rigours of top flight football.
    - Rodwell should get a full international call up.
    - The 4-2-3-1 we borrowed from the senior side hasn't really worked because, a) we don't have a physically imposing striker up front and we lack the ability to play killer passes.
    - Pearce has been right up till now, but I start to wonder, was it smart only calling up 3 strikers? 2 are now suspended for the final and Walcott doesn't quite have the composure to be a lone striker, he's much more effective from the wing, but he hesitates in front of goal, which may prove troublesome. Other than Abonglahor, Campbell and Walcott, Pearce's only other option maybe to have Milner play as a makeshift striker.
    - Cranie and Onuoha are definitely dangerous at set pieces, but seriously lacking in pace at the back.
    - How I would like to see England line up for the Final
    -----------------------------Lewis----------------------------
    Cranie--------Richards-----------Tomkins---------Gibbs
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------Rodwell---------------------------
    --------------------------------------Cattermole------------
    --------------------Noble-------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------Johnson
    Milner---------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------Walcott-------------------

Have Johnson operate more as an offensive wingback with Gibbs overlapping frequently, have Walcott drift wide to the right to start attacks allowing both Noble to surge forward and Milner to drift towards the centre. Rodwell's defensive resposibilities will be the area vacated by Noble and Milner, while Cattermole needs to just cover the back four. Due to the lack of attacking options, we may have to prepare to defend and counter-attack. If things go badly, I'd suggest subbing Noble for Muamba and sit 3 defensive midfielders in the style of Chelsea.

    Thoughts?

Wow, it took a while to realize what it was that you were talking about.

Why did Joe Hart take a penalty second, may I ask?

Because he's fucking good at it and because he would have had to take one anyway and it was better to get it out of the way without having to add extra pressure (score or your team loses) that would have been there had he gone any later. Made perfect sense :)

    Cue the Nani jokes...

Everyone else seems to like Onuoha, but I feel like he's a little slow and that might be a problem against the likes of Italy and Germany who have fast players in Giovinco and Marin respectively. Tomkins, while not the brightest tool in the shed, bless the lad, has got more pace than Onuoha.

cattermole and muamba are going to have be on top of their game against germany, ozil is looking lively.if ben hatira plays,he will cause a lot of problems too, tricky customer.england can get some joy at set pieces though.despite germanys height with players like boateng and howedes, they look very weat at defending corners and free kicks.could have conceded 4 or 5 against italy from them

    Lewis
    Cranie Mancienne Onuoha Taylor
    Milner Noble Muamba Johnson
    Walcott Campbell

i might put Gardner in midfield in the expense of Campbell, but i fear Walcott will drop too deep as he is more of a winger player who starts from deep.

Maybe it was an off day, but he wasn't tracking back too well towards the end of the game. Wellbeck definitely wasn't called up.

btw how is Joe Lewis? could he come to Prem anytime soon? i mean i am sure he can solve some of the Prem's Goalkeeping problems. Pompey or Hull will be good.

Not mature enough if you ask me, he's a little hesitatn and has the Paul Robinson stutterstep when a cross comes in. The best thing for him would be to play in the lower leagues for another season, then maybe go to a prem club, but get loaned to a championship side for a season. The potential is definitely there, same with Loach, but I rate Lewis better, to be quite honest, I've always thought that he'd be a good replacement for Given, until Given pissed of to Citeh, that's besides the point, but I'd love to be watching him in goal at St James' Park.

    thanks HLB for the inputs.

I am also going to take note of Stearman with Wolves. He can both RB and CB right?

He's played both positions for Wolves but I think he looks more of a natural centre half, decent pace, good timing in the tackle and good aerial ability. He was impressive in the Championship, we'll see if he's good enough for the Prem.

Sort of like that Euro 1984 thing with the Spanish goalkeeper (if anyone's seen it).
