Burnley have completed the signing of Manchester United youngster Richard Eckersley.

The full-back has inked a four-year deal at Turf Moor after turning down a new deal at United.

As he is under 24, Burnley will have to agree a compensation package with United for the 20-year-old.

Eckersley came through the ranks at Old Trafford and he was tipped for a big future at the club.

However, Clarets boss Owen Coyle has managed to persuade him to turn his back on United and move to the Premier League new boys.

Eckersley is Burnley's fifth new signing of the summer following the arrivals of Tyrone Mears, Steven Fletcher, David Edgar and Brian Easton.

Me ? I'm really disappointed. Really liked this lad, had some solid games in the matches he played and I'm really surprised and disappointed to see him go.

Owen Coyle is a shrewd bugger. Wheeling and dealing on the cheap, very good with young players. Reminds me of the Gaffer at Aberdeen!

I think he must have figured that there was already too much competition at United and that he had a better chance of first team football at Burnely, which is probably true to be fair to him...

Yeah to be fair he's offered first team premier league football you can't blame him. Was never going to break into a Utd team with Brown, Neville and Rafael ahead of him.

but Nev is almost gone. Sheasy has to cover for Evra as Fabio is a little raw. Rafael is covering for Brown, if he is patient he can make it, just look at Evans, Pique was ahead of him and he knew if either Ferdy or Vida was injured, he will get his chance.

Eckersley and, soon, Danny Gibson, are realistic enough to know that they're never going to be any more than bit players for United. Still, for every Chris Eagles, Sylvan Eubanks-Blake and Kieran Richardson, there's Phil Bardsley, Luke Chadwick, Kieran Lee, Luke Steele, Ronnie Wallwork, David Healy, Jonathan Greening and Robbie Savage and scores of others who look good in the Championship Division, but are just a step short of greatness. Actually, the jury is still out on Eagles, Eubanks-Blake and even Richardson. As Duffman pointed out concerning Darren Gibson, he didn't set Molyneux on fire during his loan spell at Wolves. As with Johnny O'Shea, sometimes you're better off getting splinters in your arse, because you never know about injuries. Besides, the money's pretty good, you get to travel the world, and you still get a medal if the team win.

how about Danny Simmo? he took a loan and he is back withthe team.

on 2nd thoughts, Richard should have gone on a loan. IMO.

ever since Fergie said he has enough of signings, i didnt expect us to be losing players instead.
