I wish Darron Gibson well but do wonder, after the club signed him for four or five years(depending on what you read), why it took United so long to pull the trigger? He's big and slow with fine outside shooting. At least as good as Tom Huddlestone, anyway. It looks more and more like they're going to curb the team's pace in order to accommodate Berbatov

I STILL MISS NOBBY & BOBBY!!!

to answer the question in the thread title-no.yes he has a good shot, but so does glenn whelan, and hes no top player.gibsons passing isnt up to scratch,he doesnt have a quick enough brain, and doesnt have the best touch.overall,a fairly average player, and far from ever being good enough to play for united, unless we suddenly get thrown into league one.i have higher hopes for possebon

Who knows Gibson is still young, he could still learn a lot about speeding up and keepin up with the pace of a game etc, actually, if he's that slow he could be morphed into that holding mid we really need... how's his tackling?

nah,i think that kinda thing is something either you have or you dont.you cant teach your brain to react quicker on the pitch,to see things other players wont, etc.i dont think anyone knows what his tackling is like, hes like carrick in that area,as in he never tries to tackle

Gibson's got the tools but there's just a fundamental lack of aggression in his game, which is why I keep comparing him to Tom Huddlestone. It's very frustrating when you see a player with all the tools like Gibson, Huddlestone, Dyer and Jenas, but a clear lack of hunger or desire.

The opposite of Macheda, it's a bit harsh to write a guy off after only ever starting one premier league game.... chances are he probably doesn't have it to make it at United but at least give him another season and a few games to try and impress. Scored a great goal in that game against Hull too.

he will be like Fletcher, a loyal servant to the United team, underrated.

oh no,see as bobo pointed out, gibson lacks real desire, something that could never be criticised about fletcher.gibson could carve out a decent career at a small club, bottom 5 of the prem or championship level.giving him more chances at united wont do any good, its best to leave him off to establish himself at a far lower level

Duffman, You're always extra tough on the Irish players.

because most of them do fuck all when they play.gibson, kilbane, mcshane and whelan are the main culprits.some do a bit,and then theres dunne, keane and given,i suppose o shea deserves credit for his performances at CB since trap took charge.but honestly, gibson and whelan are a liability when played in midfield for anyone, they just dont have the skills to run a midfield,or even just play as anchors

Well, Trap can't really work with what he's not got, can he? Is this Conor Hourihane kid any good?I guess Keano's out to poach him away from Sunderland for Ipswich.

well i mean hes got andy reid who is a far better passer of the ball.if you can get somebody who will work hard alongside him it will work, and trap seems to like keith andrews, who will put in a shift.once stevie reid is fit too,he will pick him,hes a big fan apparently.watching gibson against cyprus was actually painful, hes just too slow at finding his targets, and then the passes arent accurate enough.if he is to be good enough for the top flight,an insane amount of work needs to be done

as for this hourihan guy,not sure ive even heard of him.keano likes his irish talents, but a few he has bought have been fairly poor, just look at anthony stokes

There is a lot of improvement needed in Gibson's game but he deserves another contract at least, he put in a fair few decent performances in the Carling Cup, especially against Derby.

More conscientious clubs like United have to understand that if a kid comes from a long way from home and puts in his fair share of decent shifts, they can't leave em out in the cold after their first senior season. It's more of a gesture for his ability to climb through the youth set up than 'we believe this kids gonna be a star'. It gives him a platform to advertise himself to other clubs.

Rishard, Football is a business. Nobody knows better than Gibson himself that he has to grasp any chance he gets against Derby, Hull or whoever. Those goals he scores may not get him a regular place on Ferguson's team, because he's simply not quality enough, but the whole world is watching, nevertheless.

Just watched the Valencia game and Gibson put in a good shift. He had a few mistakes under his belt but he gave out a good few passes and some quality shots on goal.

shah, can i ask how hitting the bar in a pre season game counts as stepping up?he has been a failure in the majority of his competitive games, even against poor opposition

Gibson has been one of our best players in pre-season, Duff, have you been drinking again ? ( :P ) He's not the most consistent but he shows moments of pure genious that makes me forget about Scholesy...that through ball against Malaysia (match 1) to Giggsy from which Owen scored, remember that ? Gibbo deserved a goal against Valencia. Give the lad some credit, Duff, c'mon ! He's not what you make him out !!
