FIFA have banned Chelsea from registering any new players until January 2011, meaning they will not be able to recruit any new signings for two transfer windows.

World football's governing body imposed the sanctions after investigating a complaint from Ligue 1 Lens over the transfer of Gael Kakuta in 2007.

FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber passed the decision on a contractual dispute between the French club and their English counterparts.

A statement from FIFA read: "The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach

"As a result the player was condemned to pay compensation in the amount of €780,000, for which the club, Chelsea, are jointly and severally liable, and sporting sanctions were imposed on both the player and Chelsea in accordance with art. 17 par. 3 and 4 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches has been imposed on Kakuta. Chelsea are banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision.

"Furthermore, the club, Chelsea, have to pay Lens training compensation in the amount of €130,000."

In July 2005 Italian club Roma were banned from signing players for one year over the controversial signing of defender Philippe Mexes from French club Auxerre. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport later ruled that FIFA call a halt the ban at the end of the winter transfer window.

I dont know...if this is fair, then it should happen to every club that does it...including ManUtd for that Pogba transfer IF that was illegal.

sometimes having too much money is not a very wise move.

they will appeal for sure. if it happened to Hamburg or United, I am sure we would.

But fer god's sake, do not cut the gas supplies!!!

haha beautiful, i feel sorry for chelsea but money will make a team think they can do anything they want and if the player was under contract then why mess around with that?? i'd honestly never even heard of this player before now but he'll be pretty famous after this...

they will appeal and i hope it gets thrown out.. i'd luv to see them in the first few month of the 2010/2011 season before they start splashing the case in jan 2011

AS has a very good point all the big clubs in the premiership are guilty of tapping players up and it is a bit unfair on Chelsea to be the only one singled out for the punishment.

Manchester United are put under FIFA spotlight for pursuit of Le Havre's Paul Pogba

Manchester United could be the next club hit with a transfer ban after being accused of snatching another young French star from his club.

FIFA are investigating allegations made by Le Havre that the Barclays Premier League champions offered cash to France Under 16 captain Paul Pogba to lure him to Old Trafford.

United argue that Pogba was not under contract with the French club when he signed for United in July. Le Havre claim otherwise and have lodged a complaint with FIFA.

A statement from Le Havre said: ‘United offered very high sums of money to the parents with the aim of obtaining the transfer of their son.

‘At a time when parties are speaking out against the “trading of minors”, Manchester United does not hesitate to uproot a 16-year-old kid.’

United deny the allegations. A club spokesman said: ‘It is complete nonsense. Everything has been done within FIFA guidelines.’

It's pretty clear that the big guys at FIFA and EUFA are reacting to the bad publicity this trading in children draws. You all might take notice, however, that nobody in power is talking about supervising the meat market academies run by Belgian, French and Brazilian teams. Nobody is talking about changing laws in different European countries so that they're uniform and easy to enforce, either. Obviously, Platini and Blatter just want the bad press to end. This is not some altruistic act of benevolence on their part. Clearly, NOBODY really cares about these kids and their families, who are mostly poor and lacking education. Chelsea are no more guilty than United or Arsenal. Their heavy-handed methodology--using Russian muscle and outrageous amounts of untraceable cash--embarrasses the powers-that-be, however. The whole Obi Mikel story has been covered up for the time being, but, clearly, Abramovich is being warned that he can't keep doing things the same way. I would be really surprised if United hadn't covered their arses legally, but we'll see.

I STILL MISS NOBBY & BOBBY!!!

anyone thinks UEFA and FIFA bosses are too bias? i mean they are both Frenchmen and in Chelsea and United's cases, both players are French too.

Well if United do get a ban, it wouldn't be as bad for us as Chelsea with their oldies, though that would mean that we would really need Hargo back but seeing as he's in the CL squad he should be okay. Plus Anelka not being offered a new contract may mean he he'll want to abandon the bridge, especially seeing Terry handed a fortune. 8O

united will suffer this season due to the lack of creative midfielders. Giggs & scholes are not young anymore they cannot carry united like they used to and withstand departures with the weight of Ronaldos.
Manu will need transfers next season.... desperately.

Another case of luring young players to England:

mufan's utter lack of knowledge of English makes his joke all the funnier. Haha!!
