After Monday night, we can safely rule Paul Robinson out of the running ;)

Seriously, though, who can really claim to be the best goalkeeper in the world? Which keepers single and double-handedly save their clubs with the most frequency? Petr Cech, despite having been protected by a top-notch defence for most of his time at the club? Iker Casillas, who has been Real Madrid's best player for the last three years, at least? Pepe Reina, who is another candidate in my opinion for the "most underrated" player in the Premiership? Buffon, the world's most expensive keeper? Van der Saar, "mr dominance" in the six-yard area?

Anyone unearthed an unknown star keeper recently?? And I don't mean on FM.

    Lehmann? lol

I gotta go for Casillas, given the quality of his defence he has done remarcably well the past several seasons. Cech, while he is a monster is protected by a very solid defence (only recently have the four men in blue in front of him been poor). not too long ago they were water-tight.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

Don't see enough of all the goalkeepers world-wide, or even in Europe, to say definitely that this one or that one is "the best in the world". Will limit myself to the English Premier League. I think Petr Cech is still the best in the EPL, although he has not been as imperious in one-to-one situations as he was before his serious head injury.

On current form, Edwin Van der Sar might even be edging it. But as Chelsea begin to settle down after Mourinho, might be worth reviewing the comparison around Christmas.

Buffon is easily the best keeper in the world and I believe he will go on to be recognised as one of the greatest of all time. Its like Carlo Cudicini says 'Buffon was born to be a goalkeeper'. His father was an Olympic shot-putter, his mother an Olympic discus thrower and both his sisters have played volleyball for Italy. He has, quite simply, redefined what it means to be a goalkeeper in the modern game. All keepers are now required to be both very tall and very athletic. And he's the nicest bloke in football to boot. Not great on penalties, mind, that honour goes to Pepe Reiner.

A few you won't have heard of, but are good nonetheless.

Francisco Ochoa. Mexico #2 for many years, seems to be an excellent one for the future, and it can only be a matter of time before he leaves his current club. I believe he may even have taken the #1 Mexico shirt recently.

Danny Vukovic. Hotly tipped to be the next Australia #1, he has already drawn comparisions with Schwarzer and Bosnich when they were on form, and was the last goalkeeper to concede in the A-League this season.

Kasper - if he becomes half as good as his daddy then he will be a legend. Hopefull he will also score as many as old Peter did (more career goals than G Neville - who knew??)

realitically speaking it would have to go to Iker, based on form. That guy is phenomenal!! Based on recent years' performances I would have to give it to Canizarez. Buffon is reliable but not necessarily sparkling.

Buffon. But the best goalie I've ever saw was Michel Preudhomme (Belgium).
