this is a golden chance to see anderson as a striker along side tevez. . . the only thing we haven’t seen from anderson this year is skill on the ball (dribbling and beating his man) . . i mean we have, , but not anything breath taking. . and those of you who followed him last year or watched youtube clips of him know that he definetly has the skill to get past someone and get a shot off. . and he no doubt has the pace. . so i’m not thrilled about rooney. . but i am curious to see if SAF goes down that route

what do you guys think? am i loony or does that make sense

the only downside to that striker partnership that i see is that tevez seems to always shoot right at the keeper. . and we havent really seen anderson shoot all that much either. . plus neither of them are much in the terms of an arieal threat

but for the counter attacking brand of football that Man U plays, it would be brilliant

It would be worth experimenting with Anderson up front, and bring Saha on as a substitute with 25 minutes to go. SAF is wary about playing Saha from the start.

I would be wary of playing Saha too. You know maybe he'll get injured. Wait! I make no sense, I said 'maybe* he'll get injured'.

You are not looney at all, it would make some sense to play him up front. He is similar to Rooney somehow and I think will partner up well with Saha, but that is not good because we want him on the pitch ;)

Does anyone else think that he is similar to Rooney? I mean, the pace, the height (or lack of), the strength, the passing...

    Cue the Nani jokes...

Anderson had another outstanding game against Blackburn in the midfield. That seems to be his best position. Fergie currently selects him ahead of Carrick and Fletcher. I have been very impressed with Anderson; his passing is good, he tracks back well and has real tenacity and good timing with his tackles. He's a real little fighter, feisty and in your face. In fact, he is probably better than both Scholes and Carrick when it comes tackling. Scholes is a fantastic player in every respect except one; the timing of his tackles.

With Anderson and Hargreaves in midfield, I don't think United would have got destroyed in midfield by Milan as they did in the Champions League semi-final. These guys would have picked up Kaka as he tried to ghost through the midfield. United never came to terms with Kaka over the two legs. I think this was partly down to tactics and partly down to the personnel available. To be fair to Scholes, I think he was a bit preoccupied that night in Milan with not getting another yellow card which would have ruled him out of the final for a second time. He stood off people more that night than I can remember.

As Anderson is just beginning to settle down in one position, and is forging a super partnership with Hargreaves, I don't think Fergie will want to unsettle him by asking him to play up front. He's more likely to use Ronaldo or Giggs in that role, if Saha or Rooney (who as one wit on this blog said is beginning the new Saha) gets injured, again.

Having thought about it further, I feel that although Anderson could play the front man's role it is probably not needed.

Lol - are you kidding me, the closest he has come is row H. His shooting is pathetic - let him do what he does best in the middle of the park. Like keeping overrated gits like Fabre-gas and Gerard in his back pocket.

    Unitedblogger:

Playing him up front was a thought someone had 4 months ago when United were short of strikers (Rooney was injured and Saha was, well, Saha) and most importantly it was at a time when none of us had seen the quality of his shooting. Now we have. It's just about the worst I've seen of any player in English football. You talk about row H, what about row Z?

Anyhow, the guy's young. Plenty of time to work on it. He'll improve.

i say go for it against roma in the home leg. stick rooney on the left wing, and if things go wrong just mix them back up.
