There are 3rd/4th place matches in every International tournament never in Club Cups. Imagine Chelsea vs Arsenal from last season's CL, and Liverpool vs Barca from the season before that ! I want to know why 3rd/4th place matches do not take place in club football, shouldnt they be introduced ? Wont you like to see them ?

Until they start giving silver medals to the losing side in the final, they won't be giving out bronze medals, which is the purpose of 3rd place matches.

Yeah, they do get silver medals. 3rd/4th place matches should be introduced.

I don't like the idea of adding another very taxing game to an already overcrowded fixture schedule. It works in tournaments like the Euro's and the World Cup because they're one off tournaments and there's no real fixture pileup. I don't mean to be a pedant, but the Club world cup does have 3rd place games (as well as 5th place games, which to me is just pointless, if you're going to have a 5th place game, make it a league and not a knock out tournament)

well a league will have a lot more games(6 teams)

thats the problem with the KO competitions, you see you could have an easy path to the final and all you need is to be on form for that period and you are champs. that is why some fans value the league as the bread and butter to win and not when you win a KO competition and end up 5th in the league or worst relegated.

Yup, that's a point alright. Though logic aside, a 3rd/4th place match would be fascinating.

Usually in 3rd place matches, the teams are a lot more relaxed because there is no pressure on them to win anything. Remember the 2006 3rd place play-off between Germany and Portugal? That was class. The same goes for the 2002 (Turkey v South Korea) when it ended 3-2 I think. In 1998 we had Croatia v Holland and that was beautiful as well. Actually, with the exception of the 1998 final (Brazil v France) the 3rd place playoff was better than the final for as far back as I can remember it.

    Cue the Nani jokes...

By the way, that is an argument for introducing 3rd place playoffs in the Champions League, in case you missed it

well it doesnt matter if it is UCL or FA Cup. is it important? it serve very little purpose and it is just a consolation game to get some pride.

i do understand that in the Olympic Games, it is needed to have that bronze medal match, but other than the Olympic Games, i do not think it is needed.

the 3rd place match is usually relaxed, because they are playing the subs/reserves in the highest profile "friendly" match.
