With Johnson here, and able to provide a decent cross, our right wing may be more potent and Kuyt can then be allowed to run free and work his ass off and quality crosses will be coming from both the right and the left wing (Riera and Johnson) which Villa and Torres could feast on. Only problem would be fitting in Mascha AND Gerrard AND Xabi into a 4-4-2.

I think the system would work against the big boys, but what bout when you play a fulham, Hull or Bolton who go shove 5 players in the middle... they'll choke liverpool out simply because of the spaces. and that narrow formation will allow those teams to bombard the with crosses and that's a bottom-half-team's bread and butter in terms of goals

With that system Liversea...Torres and Villa will score but not as much....simply because they thrive best from wingers supply....look well at their history....It's why Rafa is always running down a winger - Babel, Riera....he knows to get the best out of Torres and for that matter Villa they need quick, pinpoint crossers.

On the national team they have a lot of that as well as gifted CM...that is why Spain was scoring at will in recent times....Teams already have to mark out Joaquin and Silva...then to try and stop Iniesta and Xavi...it was too much attacking power to stop.

That's where a 4-1-2-1-2 comes into play. He can play at AM, Mascherano at DM, Kuyt and Riera/Benayoun on the wings and Torrrrrrrrrres and Villa at attack. We know the duo have a great partnership already, so I think bringing them to the same club could have a very positive effect on the team.

Villa is by far the more gifted of the two but Tevez is a work-hound always... Having said that Liverpool already have Kuyt and Mash.

Well at the rate he's going with rumors linking you all to Aguero, Benzema and Villa it seems yet again he is missing the mark..or probably he's going to gamble on Hargreaves this season....but even if he does I think you all still need a midfielder the most.

In the first place when you all bought Berbaz it was completely unnecessary. You all should have spent that money on a Right back and a midfielder.

i'm not gonna say I'm Martin O'Neills best friends cousins mates boyfriends mate, cos i'm not. this is just reaction to some of the rumours, and a few i would like to see at Villa Park.

Gareth Barry & Stuart Taylor have both gone to Man City, and Laursen has retired.

I would look at: Sol Campbell (pompey) on a free Stephen Warnock (blackburn) in a cash plus Shorey deal, Steven Taylor (newcastle) 5m, Nedum Onuoha (man city) 4m at the back. In goal, I would get Roy Carroll (derby co) as cover.

In the midfield, I would give sidwell, gardner & reo-coker the chances they deserve, but also get Gary O'Neil (middlesbro) 4m & Tom Huddlestone (spurs) 5m. I would lose Salifou & loan out Osbourne. Fabian Delph (leeds) 8m would be a great signing but i don't think we'll get him

Up Front, I would let Delfouneso go out on loan, preferably to someone like coventry or walsall, so he doesn't get homesick. I would then look at one of Obafemi Martins (newcastle) 5m, Eidur Gudjohnsen (barcelona) 5m or Vedad Ibisevic (hoffenheim) 7m as well as Tuncay (middlesbrough) 2m plus Marlon Harewood

The Squad would then be
1 BRAD FRIEDEL
2 LUKE YOUNG
3 WILFRED BOUMA
4 STEVE SIDWELL
5 STEVEN TAYLOR
6 TOM HUDDLESTONE
7 ASHLEY YOUNG
8 JAMES MILNER
9 EMILE HESKEY
20 NIGEL REO-COKER
21 STEPHEN WARNOCK
22 BRAD GUZAN
23 SOL CAMPBELL

The logic behind Pirlo is that he provides what Deco should have, Joe Cole used to provide and Robinho would have provided had he gone to Chelsea. Pirlo, while being slow and distinctly unphysical can slice any defence open with a single pass and his ability to create chances that no one else sees is what has been lacking at the Bridge over the last season. What I think Ancelotti is trying to do is instill his AC tactics in Chelsea, but Chelsea are lacking in the deep lying playmaker role. They have Lampard and Joe Cole who can play farther up in the 5 man midfield, Essien and Mikel can play behind the Catenaccio. The only thing remaining that Chelsea need are the wingers who have the speed and inteligence to get behind the opposition fullbacks to pull the defence apart leaving more space for a quick striker through the middle.

This though, is not an entirely Italian ideology, if you take a good look at Manchester United, they have actually bought the type of players to play in this type of system. Carrick may be the best English version of the Catenaccio and had Hargreaves stayed fit, could have had him in the traditional Gattuso role with Rooney playing behind the out and out front man.

If you ask me, Pirlo isn't the best option out there, and thus there hasn't been an official bid by Chelsea yet. If Ancelotti is as wily as he looks, he may end up moving for a younger version of Pirlo in Gaetano D'Agostino
