Former Arsenal Premier League target set to join Napoli after having medical
According to The Guardian’s report, the Spain international has undergone medical with the Serie A outfit as he set to join Rafael Benitez’s side. The 28-year-old arrived at the Liberty Stadium from Rayo Vallecano in 2012 and played a crucial role in his debut season for the Premier League side.
He helped Swansea win Capital One Cup in his first season and during the 2013-14 campaign, injuries and poor form saw him struggle for goals as the Welsh club went with Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony to lead their attack.
Swansea have already completed a deal for Bafetimbi Gomis as the striker signed for Gary Monk’s side on a free transfer from Lyon. With Gomis’ acquisition, Michu is all set to leave his current employers and join the Italian side.
Michu has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past as the Gunners look to bolster their strike force. However, off late the North London club’s manager Arsene Wenger has cooled interested in the Spaniard.
However, Wenger is believed to be interested in landing Bony as the African star looks to play for a Champions League club. With Michu on the verge of joining Napoli, Bony could also follow him in leaving the Liberty Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Naples side have the former Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuaín to lead their attacking front. However, the Argentine international’s future at the club remains uncertain as he is linked with a move back to La Liga, with Barcelona believed to be in for him.
Should Higuaín leave Napoli and join Barcelona, Michu is likely to be his replacement in the squad. Irrespective of whether Higuaín stays or leaves this summer, the addition of the Spanish striker will give the former Liverpool manager more options in the strike position.
