Former Arsenal flop lashes out at Wenger

Former Arsenal attacker Gervinho has slammed Arsene Wenger for sapping his confidence through extended periods on the bench during his two year stay in North London.

The Ivory Coast international, who signed for Serie A side Roma last summer for €8m, is enjoying a new lease of life under new boss Rudi Garcia, and has clearly highlighted the difference between his experiences,

“The fundamental difference between the Roma and Arsenal is the coach,” Gervinho told ‘Sports Ilustrated’,

“Garcia here gives me confidence, I know that he believes in me. When I wake up in the morning, I really like going to work: I cannot wait to train and stay with my coach and my team-mates,”

“In Italy the people are great. Rome is wonderful and the passion for football is strong, but a lot of these qualities were also in England. What I learned at Arsenal? Honestly, not so much, because you cannot learn a lot if you’re on the bench.”

The 26-year-old only managed 11 goals from the 63 games he played for Arsenal, but his brace against fierce rivals Napoli on Wednesday took him up to eight for the season already for his new side.

“I left England because I was not playing,” added Gervinho,

“Almost always be among the reserves was the worst thing for me and for my confidence.”

What do you think? Is Gervinho out of order, or do you sympathise? Let me know in the comments below…

  1. he is not out of order, wenger has destroyed so many players with his style of play, he is an outdated coach, he plays borin, slow passing game wchich doesnot favour fast players. look at what is happening to podoski, rosciski. these are players that are suited to past paced, direct play, just look at ashavin
