Basically trophies, but I also look at how he won them. For instance, for me both of SAF's UCL wins weren't very convincing, they had tons of luck in 99 and then weren't able of any kind of follow-up in the next years, as Real dominated. And this last one he won at PKs against Chelsea, *and* it so happens that I think they also had some ref help, as it says on my site, otherwise they wouldn't have won. Real's 2 wins at begin of the decade were more convincing IMO, except that nobody seems to credit Del Bosque very much with them (even though after he was sacked, they obviously and abruptly went downhill) and besides he did have the absolute best players at his disposal back then. For me, Mourinho's win with Porto was the most convincing given the circumstances, and then he did follow up at Chelsea, they were pretty unlucky not to win at least one UCL under his reign IMO. But still not enough yet to qualify as a legend (of course), but promising prospects.

While I'm at it, this Hiddink character seems to have some sort of magic stick, doesn't he ? He's at Chelsea for a few weeks and suddenly their prospects look much brighter. If he pulls the trick, we might talk about him as a legend in a few years. Not that he's not already known to be excellent, but I don't know, so far he's only been at second-grade teams at best, that's not a way to prove yourself. But at Chelsea, and if Abra backs him up financially, that's a different ballgame.

It depends on what criteria you use to judge it FF. If it's trophies won then SAF is definitely on the list, if not at No.1. But if it's other factors it becomes subjective.

For example, I think Shankley was an absolute legend. He built the dynasty at Liverpool, created the 'boot room' and his personality was irresitable. Paisley may have won more trophies but for me (no disrespect to Paisley) I'd pick Shankley every time.

What criteria do you go by?

Actually, SAF might have a strong case if he wins again the UCL and the Premiership this year. Given how strong english club football is these days. But that's still to be seen.

The weakest of the legends lists IMO. None of the current managers should be in IMO, not even Ferguson. Mourinho might lay claim to that one day. Also Del Bosque, *if* he ever manages to win the World Cup with Spain, and that's a big if. Instead, how about Udo Lattek ? Also Gusztav Sebes, the manager of the legendary hungarian team of the 50s.

Matt BUsby and Bill Shankly were both Scottish managers. Taking abit of credibility away from your otherwise decent article by getting simple but ultimately important facts wrong.
