Come on. For every instance when opinion is divided after TV replays, there are many more that are clarified by them. That's the whole point. What you're saying applies equally to the video ref idea as a whole, so you're basically saying it would be useless, or did I get you wrong ? If you agree the video ref should be helpful, as I think you do from previous posts, then it should be expected to have an impact on injuries as well. Certainly, some of them happen because defenders know there's a good chance they get away with fouls. I don't mean to say they break legs on purpose knowing they might not get carded, that's probably fairly rare. But the general level of fouling should be expected to drop with the video ref, and with it the injuries rate as well.

Besides, it's not really the public opinion that matters here but that of the experts. There are tricky situations that are too much for the public to judge, even with video help; but there should be much fewer that are too difficult for experts.

FF: Can't agree here. How many times did we all see the Eduardo and Hunt/Cech incidents and the opinion is as divided as it was when we all saw it in 'real' time. Video replay resolved nothing in these instances and that's just to take 2.

Mickey: That's your opinion, read above. As someone who played as a tough (so they said) but honest (some said) defender I am completely on the side of the defender in the Eduardo incident. You're entitled to your opinion but don't state it as fact or believe for a minute that it is universal.

Dave Stropher,
Eduardo's injury was caused by a malicious challenge by a footballer who was aiming for the player, not the ball (evidenced by photos from various angles). I don't think the overall pace of the game has anything to do with it; rather, the culture of being a 'ard man to establish cred against quicker, more gifted opponents has to be civilised. I'm not saying ban tackles or anything, accidents are understandable. But anyone who's been following football for even a couple of years would know of at least four incidents where serious harm has come to a player due to the tackler going for him and not the ball. You have to wonder what would've happened to Possebon if Pogatetz had managed to inflict the damage he intended.

Harsher punishments are required.

Well, I hate to sound like a broken record again, but the video ref might improve things a little in this area too. This plus harsher punishment for offenders. I'd like a regulation that the man who fouls has to sit out as long as the one whom he injures. For starters. But that's wishful thinking, I know.

Anyway, it might be interesting to know some statistics. What percentage of one's career does a player sit out due to injuries, on average ? What about the various positions, i.e. at least defender / midfielder / forward ? With a special mention for top class players. Another question that might be harder to assess, how much of one's career are players out of their best form because of that ? Cause you know, after coming back from injury it takes some time to get back to where you were before. Some never manage to do it. And speaking of this, some high-profile examples would be also useful. Del Piero comes to mind, also Ronaldo, Owen, Van Basten and many others.

Edurado was lucky to walk again never mind play football after the late challenge. I think these injuries are cause by the quickness of the game today.
